I don't know why this keeps coming up, the instructions are CRYSTAL CLEAR (and Greg, as a dealer you should know better). The string tubes are to be removed AFTER threading the string through the bridge. NOT left on permanently. If you leave them in place they do nothing other than deaden the sound. Dave

Nobody uses EXP17s? I think those strings might be a bit heavy for my 1778LX.

I'm a fan of Webstrings' Portland Acoustic (phosphor bronze) strings. I like the D'addarios, but these sound better (to me) last at least as long and are considerably less expensive.

That was just for the guitar he was buried with, to make the strings last longer not for tone.

The string tubes are only for wooden pinless bridges. (from Tupperware's manual)...
