Hello, I'm a new member at this site.
I have a 5869-5p that belonged to my brother.
He passed away last year. I was going to list it
for sale, but before I did I googled it and found some posts on this site concerning the same model.
The guitar has a surface crack in the top that I had repaired. I wondered if anyone knew what the value maybe.
Thanks
Bill

Hi Bill. Sorry about your brother.

Your guitar is a fairly rare model. It would help if you could post or at least point us to some pictures. That would help people assess.

Thank you, The guitar is black with pearl inlay. It has a battary powered pickup and eq built in also. I will post some pictures as soon as I
figure out how to do that at this site.

Looks like a standard SSB Custom Legend with additional inlays on the fretboard and a pearl black finish.

Typically used Custom Legends hover around the $700-1200 area, but with a repaired top hmmm.... Probably half that.

Thanks Damon,
The orig. posts I read about the guitar and the reshearch at the Ovation site i did indicated that this guitar was made one year only. I believe it was 92 or 93. It is very ornate
I believe it was thought to be a prototype of future models.
I have been trying to post a pic.,but can't.
Can you help me along with the pic. posts?

Sure, send it to my user name here @mac.com

I don't think it's a prototype, but it's definitely a special run. I do see someone here thought it was maybe an early predecessor to an Al DiMeola model, but that's just plain wrong. An Al DiMeola has a deep bowl. For quite some time in the 90s and beyond it was the only deep bowl available from USA Ovation until the newer deep contour bowl came out.

The OFC price guide shows that the Custom Legend from the same year retailed @ $1700.00 while this one listed @ $1975.00 I have one of these and it has a better bass tonality to it than any of the deep bowl CL's I have played. Too bad it has a crack, but often those have no impact on the quality of the sounds actually produced... just remind prospective buyers that beauty is in the ear of the beholder. You just need to get into the right person's hands & they will fall in love with it & pay the fair price for it. The person who repaired it should have given you an opinion both before & after. Best of luck, someone is going to be getting a great guitar.

Thanks Damon, I will send a photo along.
Thanks Marty, Yeah it sounds good and has good
action. I just want to get a fair price for it and see it go to someone who will enjoy it.

Thanks for posting the pictures.
I will wait to see if there is any more info.
to be gotten before listing it for sale.
Is there a For Sale page at this site?
It would probably find a better home here then on Greggslist.
Thanks again
Bill

Probably, but it's tough market out there. Ask a mod to give you permission so you can post it in the For Sale section when you're ready. But if you don;t get a hit pretty quickly here, you might want to try some other places too.

What part of California?
