Oh we gotta get these two together. When I have encouraged Pam to come to an OFC thing she thinks she is gonna be bored stiff. She has said, "Well, maybe I can being my scrapbook stuff along for something to do".

In answer to the original question - marry a woman who appreciates you and loves you for your quirks, and not in spite of them. Took me 2 tries.

Beal; perhaps you'd like to change up the name from time to time so she does not hold a grudge against Dave.
I'll give you my address.
Start using "Randy"

Now is a good time to sneak in a new one Captain. While your surrounded by loaners, she'll think its another one of them. When the others go "home" she'll be so glad of the extra space she won't notice the extra one.

First of all, Lay the groundwork by paying the bills so she's less likely to see two thousand dollar charge. Have it delivered to the UPS store, not your house. Make sure the number they have to notify you it's arrived is your cell, not your home. Go get it while she's out. GET RID of the box. Sand the case in various places to make it look old. Be sure the new guitar is similar in color to one of your present guitars.

If your wife is also a musician, forget it. Nothing will work.

Actually, kidding aside, the UPS store is a great way to receive an instrument. There is a nominal charge for this, but you don't have to worry about being home when the truck comes, or what the driver is likely to do if you're not.

I recently had a delayed delivery of an item because the street on which I live ends in "Trail" The idiot (non-UPS) driver couldn't find a trailer, so he didn't make delivery. Took about four days to get that sorted out.

I guess this is one of the times where being single has an advantage over being married. I don't have a husband who thinks I've gone off the deep end with the guitars--but my kids sure do! But, there will be one for each grandchild, way down the road, and still leave one or two for me, too.
And I was like the wife Alison referred to; I didn't like Jack's music for quite awhile, but once I started playing it, I got hooked, too--Jack may be gone, but I am still playing bluegrass. (And "Roses in the Snow" is my signature song, now, instead of his.)

Not having to pay the bills is worth the small amount of grief I get when I buy a guitar. I don't have my own checkbook and don't generally know if we have enough in the checking account to pay for any significant expenditures.
Whoever first said ignorance is bliss meant it for me.

Treat her to something with her friends away from the house, anything, but just make some time for yourself alone at home. The rest is easy. I also keep the bandroom locked, the key hidden, and rewired all the switches so even if she should make it past the door, she'll need a flashlight, all of which have also been hidden. There's so much stuff in there now that she has lost total track of what is old and what is new. Also, if she should somehow discover something new, I just show her all the off-shore lookalike models on eBay and give her a couple hundred dollars to make up for it. Seriously, I think she knows, but she has her own purchasing vices that she'd rather I not know about, and of course I do know about them, so the less said the better peace is kept.

I'm pretty well in the clear for the next one. She already knows I want it & i'm saving for it. A little b'day money, a rebate check from another purchase, I recently did a paint job on a G & L strat body for a guy on the BRB board and its all gone into the GAS slush fund along with a few bucks here and there.
I pay the mortgage & most bills with my money.
She has her personal bills & takes care of the household stuf & we each have our own checking accounts, nothing jointly & it works out pretty well.
The next one will be # 3 and I'm thinking I would be happy with a total of 5 guitars but that could be blown to hell when I get there.
I'm just looking down the road at those other purchases.
I may need to give up a few guns that I don't use anymore but those aren't going down in value, most are worth 400-500% of what I paid.
I can always remind her she got me the first one.
This wasn't a problem till I started hanging out here.

and an old Hagstrom will soon be coming through it... arrived unstrung, and with the bridge rattling around in the original case, looks like someone stored it on top of an old coiled cord in the case for a while tho... ate up the lacquer quite a bit on the backside... I'll string it up today, and let you know how it sounds... I'll get it over to Oliver's for shipment in a day or two... depends on how good it plays/sounds :D

Glad I could help Jim!

I must just be lucky..
As long as the bills are paid and there's money in the bank, and I can pay cash, I can buy whatever I want. The same thing goes for her. If she goes to Kohl's and buys a bunch of clothes, it doesn't bother me as long as she can still handle her responsibilities. For the most part, my gig money is my toy money.. So the more I gig, the more toys I can buy. But for the rest of you, I think the investment angle is the most sound. My wife knows that, for the most part, "our" collection is a better investment than just about anything out there. After getting our clock cleaned with bad IRAs, she see's the value for this type of resource.
