Not a great day, but not totally unexpected, my PSA was 80. CT scan showed none in any organs. Right before Christmas he called back to report that bone scan showed 3 spots that he felt was prostate cancer in the bone. Not a good day, but we have not despaired at all. This meant that surgery to remove the prostate and radiation was no longer an option. We had a face to face today and I will start hormone therapy next week. This is not to whine, my outlook is positive and the doctor feels that I have years ahead of me. Only time will tell. What this is about: ALL YOU GUYS OVER 50 - GET A YEARLY DRE & PSA TEST! DON'T PUT IT OFF! And now, back to your regularly scheduled fan club stuff.

Working around reactors for 25 years it was our running joke that we had to get the finger wave on an annual basis. Best to find out early. If you need someone to vent to or share with or just to know they care enough to listen count myself and many others here in. I don't have the answers but we are here. Life is hard but God is good.

Also would like to dedicate this week's Offertory song to you, we happen to be playing "It is Well With My Soul". Divine providence I suppose...the song sums it up pretty well somehow. Just up the road if you need anything. Still hoping to do some hunting in your neck of the woods before quail season ends. Take Care, Mike O

If you need a second opinion on anything let me know and I'll set you up with Phil. He's a great guy and a fantastic surgeon. Mike O

You just convinced me to make an appointment for as soon as I get back from the cruise. Thanks for that. I'd like t'say that I'll be thinking about you when I go for it, but that . . . . wouldn't sound right  GodSpeed, Buddy. We're all pullin' for ya' . . .

I had one scheduled for this month, but it was the same day my wife was scheduled for surgery, so I cancelled. The soonest they could get me back in is March. I figure I've waited this long, what's another eight weeks. Now you have me wondering...

He said I was too young and healthy :D to worry about it. I insisted anyway, to get a 'base line' measurement to compare later results. On that basis he agreed with me. Get it early, for later reference. It's kinda like recon before the battle.

Mike, It Is Well With My Soul, is one of my favorite hymns. The story behind the lyrics is great: the man who wrote them had lost a daughter to a ship wreck, as he later traveled on another ship, the captain slowed down near the spot where her ship had gone down. As he gazed over the rail at the sea, the idea for the song came to him. It is a wondereful song. Again, thanks to all and it is going to work out fine.

Joined: November 2004 Posts: 4413 | For those of you who are about to get tested, maybe you should look at some stuff published today in the US journal Archives of Internal Medicine by John Concato of the Veterans Affairs Connecticut Healthcare System and Yale University. In the UK (and in most of Europe I think - not absolutely sure) the idea of regular testing in otherwise healthy men has never caught on with the medical profession. I don't have a web link to the article as I read about it in good old newsprint over my lunch. I'm sure you guys can find it. It's very interesting.
