Joined: January 2005 Posts: 167 Location: Waxahachie, Tx | I just purchased a 1778LX Elite, It came with a 9158-0 case which, is what the Ovation page says is normally supplied. I have a year old 1771LX that came with a 8158 case and it also is what Ovation spec's as what the guitar comes with. I'm just confused, they are the same case. Dimensions, logo, color, material, components, layout, same. I was kinda hoping, and under the assumption that the 9158 had the White Ovation on the inside of the fur inside the lid,(kinda a little bling bling) but mine has nada. what is the difference? Like I said it can't be one accommodates both mid and deep cause 8158 has the same identical dimensions and if you purchase either case separately their is a cost difference. What case does the Adamas or higher price point guitars come with. anyway as just a lugnut on the wheel of life can someone enlighten me. YO YO peace Out!

Tuesdays and Thursdays get plain fuzz cases. You can specify your preferred ship day of the week with Al when you place an order. Dave PS - I have also seen on ebay an aftermarket logo that you can stencil into your fuzz with white spray paint. It's called a fauxfuzzgo.

Not a problem, I've even thought about at least making the two cases different by maybe spray painting one with Gold trim. Maybe rip out the fuzz and have a custom Plaid liner made for it. or maybe even go with a hawaiian print kinda like the Rodney Dangerfield's regular guy line of clothes motif. Maybe, If I ever get to the factory I can see who's in charge of the cases and how they actually determine what model number gets assigned to the hunk of plastic with an aluminum rim, Of course theirs always the woodlike contact paper. :)

The 9158 has a hole alongside the storage compartment to put the large trussrod adjusting wrench into (this doesn't matter with the LX models). The ONLY other difference I've found...and the only one that really matters to me...is the guitar fits perfectly snug in the 9158. In the 8158, the neck support seems too high causing the headstock to sit up in the air. The bowl seems to fit too loosly into the case as well. I don't see any difference in durability between the 2 cases...they seem to be made out of the same stuff inside and out. The 9158 just fits the guitar better.
