There is a 1768-7LTD BOOK ELITE on ebay right now. $699. with a Buy It Now of $999.

BOOK ELITE

This isn't mine, I just saw it and assumed some people here would be interested. I don't play mine much, but from a pure sentimental and historical perspective, it's a must have.

Is 'fretware' like tableware but used on frets?

Which is the better guitar all things equal. The Book Elite or the 1987 colletor? I have played an 1987 but not a "book".

I've played both but not side by side. I would say the 87 sounds better, but the Book looks better. I don't like the fretboard inlays on the 87. I know one member here that has both and might comment.

I assume that comment was directed at me ;)

The '87 sounds very similar to the 1537 except with more bling. The Book Elite sounds closer to the 30th anniversary but with more bling.

The '87 has a fuller deeper tone than the "Book" but does not have the clarity of the mids and highs.

As a purely acoustic guitar, the '87 is the better sounding guitar. Plugged in they both sound like an Ovation plugged in......which is very good.

For a bling standpoint, the "Book" is probably the nicest guitar Ovation has ever produced.

Based on the current auction, I would pass.....only because to grab a "Book Elite" that was not in mint shape would be self defeating. This is not a guitar you grab because it sounds fantastic (it sounds really good) and you don't really care about the shape (adds character). This is a guitar you grab because of what it is and what it stands for....and to get one with chips or dings would distract from it's finest features (it apprearance). Just my opinion.

Well, actually I was thinking of someone else, but now that you remind me I guess I know TWO members that have both!
