BID!!!!!!!!!!!!

That is a great price. Someone should bid on this one. Consider it a 1537 with lots of bling!

That's a dirt cheap price for an 87 Collectors. They are easily in the top 5 of wooden top guitars built by Ovation.

I emailed the seller and it is a music store about 45 minutes from me. The 87 has been my dream guitar so I drove over to look at it. This is a tuff one. It has been played for sure. Pretty good shape but has some cracked binding going up the neck. The blemish on the face is more noticable than in the picture. About quarter of an inch round is impacted. It dented the wood but is not a structural problem. There is a slight clipping of one of the wings of the head stock though it has been repaired well and is only noticable if you look for it. I would buy it if the price reflected those issues. Since I can pick it up I can save the shipping.
Like I said tuff one.

A minty one would go for over $1000. If you could cut a deal with the store for a little less and then sent it to the mothership for some TLC, it would be a great deal.

No bids after 5 days so maybe they will negeoiate!

Went and bought this 87 today. Could not be happier. Went back for the second time and spent more time with it, the store let me adjust the trust rod myself, and it zeroed in close to perfection on fingering. This guitar is the best sounding wooden ovation I have experienced. It just booms. I remember seeing the ads for this guitar 18 years ago thinking it was the best looking guitar I had ever seen. Ovations are such a steal in the used market. To get a guitar of this quality that has aged well for half the cost it was new is a gift. Thanks to this board for all their wisdom that makes this kind of purchase a lot easier and more fun.

Congrats, Steve. It's still on my short list (which really isn't that short.)

Hah!

Classic move Steve. Tell us you went to see the '87 guitar and that it was a turd....then return to snap it up and tell us how wonderful it is.

Well played my friend....well played :D

Wow!!!, issues I talked about were real. The guitar has cosmetic issues but the sound is awesome. I asked the questions because I was not sure what the guitar was worth given these issues. I went over there today not knowing if I would buy it, but the sound won me over. I am not sure all of you could live with the dent in front and cracked binding, but I will make it a player and stay away from here for awhile.

I'm sure T28 was being sarcastic. Maybe not. Don't leave us unless it's because you can't stop playing your new 87.

Hmmmmm, a little thin skinned for an OFCer with almost 200 posts. I guess the grinning toad face :D doesn't mean as much as it used to.....and I was quite sure that both my admiration and sarcasim would shine quite brightly!

Nice score Steve!! Stephen was in fact complimenting you on your "Snipe" technique :p :D

I have a numerous occasions (well, at least once) just posted the following:

"Stephen!! "

After HE scored something that I was sure I was really going to bid on then didn't bid on even though I looked at the auction 12 or 15 times.....

This is a great purchase. Even if it ends up going back to the factory to be refurbished, it will be worth it. The 87 C is in the top 5 of all wood top guitars built by Ovation in sound and appearance.

Can't believe nobody jumped on it. Must be the Post-Christmas Deficit Syndrome.

I am a definite victim of PCDS, also known as the Anti-GAS. That CB 12 string Paul pointed out on another post would have been nice too!
