Location: Kennesaw, GA | Has anyone on here ever done or had done a neck reset? My Legend is in need of one. It's harmonically in tune, plays like butter at the low end, but the frets 'smack' at the high end. When eyeballing down the neck from the headstock, one can see the left side is perfect, but the right is slightly curvy. Per the advisement of a repairman at a local store, a neck reset is needed. This guitar strums wonderfully and plays fine if not doing any solos or high end work. The color is incredible and I just can't part with it yet (no time or funds for 3 yrs due to med school starting in 2 weeks). Even with the condition the neck is in, it was roughly appraised at $350 (it came with a hard shell brown case). I hope to contact the factory when I'm out of school, if by luck maybe some time sooner, but from what I have scanned on the net neck resets are very, very tricky. Is this effort really worth it? When I look at the guitar, she says "keep me...", and until I can afford a few Adamas, which won't be for a long, long time, I'll have to continue to wonder. If anyone has neck reset experience or information, PLEASE let me know. I will be storing this until I'm able to tackle the project.

Location: 6 String Ranch | If one side is straight and the other curvey maybe the neck is just a little twisted and it needs to be flattened which is pulling the frets and leveling the f/b and refretting. Also something that the factory can easily do. |

| Law a straight edge down the length of the fretboard, and check at what point that it touches the bridge. It should hit the bridge near the top, close to the saddle. If it touches near the bottom of the bridge, a neck set is in order. Do you have plenty of saddle left, and how high is the action now? |

Location: Kennesaw, GA | Well, she is off to the mothership today. While I still have a full time job (for all of a few days yet) I can get this fixed. I found another one on CL in the exact same color, so I think this tobacco finish was common in the late 80's. It is wonderful to look at, and when playing it again before sending it, the heart says this is the right thing to do. ...getting all sentimental over it now... I do find comfort in having you all as a resource. Thanks to Oddball and others for the info. I may now try to pawn some body tissue to get another one of these, as I try to have two to help with alt tunings. Sigh...the only bad thing about being in here is that I get too many ideas for what I want. :) If I can figure out how to post a pic in this forum, I'll send one from the original ebay listing, as his pics are better than the ones I took. |

Location: Chicago | A few years back I sent my '74 1117 Legend back to the Mothership. My bridge was shot and I had serious problems with the neck. The best therapy turned out to be a new bridge AND a whole new neck. It is more massive than the older Legend necks but sounds fantastic! |

Location: SoCal | Dob, did they put on a neck with a Kbar, or one with a standard truss rod? Or one of the new necks with the ANS? |

Location: Chicago | The neck is very stout but has a standard truss rod. Or so it seems to me. I know it ain't a Kbar (got one on my 1769 ADII). Not sure about "ANS": don't know what that is. Gotta check with Chief engineer LaForge about that one. Dobro out. |

Location: Kennesaw, GA | After only a few weeks, I got my Legend back from the Mothership; kudos once again to Mr. Keller for his help and assistance. The Legend now plays without any buzz or slap, and it's quite good to have her home again. I can't help but wonder if Taylor or Martin or the others offer the same type of service, especially on older models. I'm now off to buy an Ovation tee shirt. :o ) |
