Location: CA | Here are some images of the CV 68 Viper I just scored off craigslist — $250 included a Peavey practice amp. Also included a photo of the burnt-out portion of the pre-amp circuit board. Also a pic of the battery receptacle. That '+' sign is harder to see than it appears. As you can see, it's easy to get a battery in wrong-way-round as it fits easily both ways.

From the pic it looks as though the 'front end' (aka input circuitry) is fried. Without having the preamp in hand, I'd say get ya another one.
If you're in no hurry, send it to me and I'll check the damage. Many times it's the input diode that gets the brunt of the jolt. But this looks more extensive.
Nice get none-the-less! |

| preamp assembly from mother is just under $160 US, same as on the EA68, that price quote is 60 days old.
the one I just sold had half of the vol pot shaft split off, and the pickup needed replacing as well.
I replaced the pickup(thank John!), and I modified the shaft so the knob was tight, secure, and didn't wiggle too much... ;)
got the quote and the OPP from JB at the factory.

Location: Montana | Wow that's nice! I'm new around here so I thought all Vipers were solidbody. Does this have a piezo pickup? What does it sound and play like? Hollowbody electric? |

Location: Scotland | The Korean made CV Viper has an Ovation thinline pickup, the USA versions have the original Ovation pickup. Vipers are not designed to be "hybrids" They are basically a solidbody acoustic guitar. This means they sound and play like an electric-acoustic when plugged in but are virtually feedback-free. Acoustically they produce very little volume. They can be set up low and light, like an electric guitar if you like, but that's kinda missing the point, unless it's Al's FrankenViper |

The historical Viper was a sexy cross between a Telecaster and a little Les Paul....only better.
Someone else will have to share why they exhumed the name for an acoustic/electric guitar. |
