Greetings.

I'm helping an Ovation-endorsed artist from the 70s/80s (Michael Dunford of Renaissance) auction two of his guitars, one of them a seemingly interesting 1688 (serial #398): The guitar color (black) does not match the hand-written model designation on the label (1688-9) (Thanks to Jérôme of ovationtribute.com for pointing this out to me.)

Can anyone give me an idea of how to arrive at a valuation for the guitar itself (solely as a vintage Ovation, outside of the artist association and related collector value.)

More pictures of the guitar here

Thanks for any advice!

Thanks for the feedback. I did provide a link to a page containing more information and larger images:

Here's a link to an easier-to-navigate gallery with supersized images (hover over intermediate images to see size selector):

In Today's market, you'll be lucky to get 2 grand for it. Ovation is currently making a very nice cutaway alternative with the Op Pro Studio and contour bowl, so unless you can come accross someone with cash and sentimental value, you may find yourself challenged to get what it really should be worth. Good luck though.

Thank you Vince.

Are there any practical repair/restoration options for this, other than a complete neck replacement:

Strangely, 1688 is not listed in the Ovation parts book:

I'd leave that alone, not really big enough to worry about.
