Location: Phoenix AZ | I bet THIS sounds great. Nice old Balladeer with the Artist bowl. Acoustic only (as it should be) and plenty of finish cracks to open up the soundboard. This'll get a lot of bids. VERY TEMPTING ...

Location: Cincinnati | Calling all bottom feeders. Did you call me, Mike? I'm curious to see where this one goes. I'd wouldn't mind getting this for my son for his first guitar. |

Throw in a decent bid and scare all the others off. This would make a good beginner guitar.
There's also an Ovation Balladeer listed on The Acoustic Guitar Forum. Heres the link;

Location: Cincinnati | Thanks, Mike. I've requested additional photos and info for both. Is there any significance to the Artist bowl? Is that an output jack on the bottom right of face of the Artist Balladeer? Why would you put it there? Thanks. |

Location: Phoenix AZ | That's probably a stick on piezo.
Artist bowl is slightly shallower than the deep and is very comfortable without losing a lot of tone. Same bowl as the recent GC Reissue (oh-la-la).

Location: Scotland | Looks like an old Schaller stick-on piezo. They work kinda OK if you put them in the right place, which is exactly where it's not. |

By the way, Dave. I finally heard from Dick. He loves the Tak 460. Thanks. |

Location: SoCal | Ok, I gotta jump in here. The Artist on the 'bay isn't going to sound anything like the GC reissue. I had an Artist ('72) and while I would consider it a decent guitar, it wasn't THAT good of a guitar.
The problem is the VT bracing whick gave the '70's Ovations (those that had it) a very plastic-y sound on the bass E and A strings. They had decent mids and lots of treble. The GC reissues have A bracing which makes a HUGE difference.
I sold mine in '78 and while I wish I still had it for sentimental reasons, if I did have it, it wouldn't get played much..... |
