These things are pricy!
Anyone have any little gems that might need a little restoration or a good home? |

During my Apprenticeship we had to haul around a drafting board that was always in the way when commuting or carrying! It was considered the aprentices curse.
I imagine that being a double Bass Player has it's own type of hell that goes with it! |

In my old life our keyboard player was a purist! And I liked to sound so much myself; It was the two of us who hauled this monster to all the Gig's. It was great and I am glad to say I played against one but Never again! The New Korgs and the XK units are just fine for what they weigh!

| I just went into craigslist to see what I remebered seeing a while back and I found it!
TOo bad too it is beautiful but it is also very valuable. I would have been happy to have helped with this. It is not easy to send money out of state with no way to collect the item from a private seller who has no feedback.
Anyway I'll keep my eyes open

He own's a bicycle shirt previously worn by Lance Armstrong. His "road bikes" are in the $5K arena. He has two beautiful (4 and 5 string fretless) bass' that are made by some guy that makes 5 a year and charges a lot. If it is unique, special and worthwhile the price won't matter. But being expensive just because holds no thrill.
A "connected" instrument would be worth taking the jump. |

Location: Capital District, NY, USA Minor Outlying Islands | David Gage has the best selection of upright basses I have ever seen. Bar none. If he wants a pro instrument, then this is mecca for him. I'm sorry he lives so far away.
If I were gigging an upright bass, the czech ease would be it. It's a no brainer. And it is unique and special and .... sensible. Excellent sound, and Gages pickups are awesome.
If he wants something extra extra unique, Gage can set him up too. As I posted before, one of the basses I played was made in the early 1600's. But that was only $120K. Expensive to me, but maybe cheap for your friend. The sound was broad and full:sonorous and rich. Full of wonderful overtones. He'd go ape in Gages shop. |

These are even more portable and the coolness factor extreme.
I can't stress what a pain it is to lug around a full size bass.
PS I ride my bike to work everyday. I bought it at recycle-a-bicycle for $150. It's made from the parts of 5 other dead bikes. It is cooler than the expensive bikes I've owned, it's unique, special and I'd be heartbroken if it were ever stolen. It is true, sometimes price doesn't matter. |

Location: Waurika OK | Some years ago a friend was looking for an upright bass. I found one in a garage sale here in our little town for $125, he was thrilled. It was an old Kay in real good shape. I had it for a few months before he picked it up. Sure was fun to play, I would like to have another one. |

We had such a monster in our Irish Folk Band some years ago.... we needed 3 cars to go... 1 for the bass, 1 for all other equipment (3 Guitars, Banjo, Bouzouki, Accordeon, flute, drums, etc.., amps, PA...), and one for the band members.... |
