If you change your strings with any regularity, I vote for short. Also, fits back into the case easier.

There is a school of thought that not clipping the strings eliminates the possibility of the outer wound wire on the string slipping in relation to the core wire which, theoretically, degrades the sound.

Personally, I'm not convinced and I'm not very cool so I clip mine.

StandingO, ...Nope that was the attitude, as much strinng as possible for more vibration...go figure...but now i basically just back-wrap over the string on the post to prevent slipping and snip the excess...

Hey Dude, sorry for the delay in answering you.

Inside is only the model number and serial number...no frequency number.

I will say again, that this SSB is by far the most impressive sounding shallow bowl I have ever played and it sounds better than some of the mid/deep bowls that I have owned.

Obviously I would love to keep it within the OFC family but it will go to eBay if I don't sell to anyone here within the next few days.

Hello Stephen,

Thank you for the answer.
I'm little annoyed because as I already own a 1581, I'd like to have two guitars with different tones... And it is not easy for me to jump in a plane to test yours !!

Is there by any chance some Original Documentation somewhere that came with this guitar that might be referenced??

You mean a 1581 deep bowl...like the reissue?
Does yours have dual holes or only on the bass side.

I own the 1581 reissue and it sounds nothing like the 1881 (at least not to my ears). The 1881 has a brighter, crisper sound than the deeper darker sounds of the 1581.

It is a 1581 deep bowl, but not the reissue.
It has two epaulets.
I wish I could get the reissue model because everybody agree on the fantastic bass those guitars have (and as I could have read in a previous post, you too !).
And I have read in previous posts that the 1581 with two epaulets (like mine) sounds very closed to the 1681. That's why I asked you about the frequency number.

Thank's,

Dude, were you interested in my Blue 1681 or my Red 1881?

This thread was about the red 1881 but it sounds like you might have been interested in the 1681.

Some pepole like the epaulettes on both sides because, while it is a little less bassy, the treble comes across more fully. Especially when you amplify.

Stephen,
I was interested in your 1681 (the blue one with deep bowl).
I've just checked your first post in this thread, and you were talking about both !
Sorry if I misunderstood.

Ahhhhh...so I was. tis I who confused things...my apoligies. Still no frequency number on the 1681.

Yes, the 1681 and the 1581 reissue sound similiar but not identical. The 1581 with the single side epalutes has a bassier sound than the 1681. The 1681 has a slightly more balanced sound.

My guess is that a double epaluet 1581 and the 1681 would sound almost the same or very very similar.

They both play about the same....which is exceptional.

You should think about the 1881....especially if you play live and plugged in. It is a killer player.

OK ! We've been a little confused ! No problem !
You understand now why I was annoying you with my frequency question ! :)
Your 1881 should certainly be a killer guitar, but I don't like SSB's guitars. I can't hold them because I play sat on a chair.
It is a beautiful guitar (I love red colors), but not for me !
I wish you good luck for the continuation !

Spider, if you hit the "Full Reply Form" button you'll get a screen with instant ubb commands - such as URL. That way it's coded and doesn't stretch out across the screen. Also for italics, bold, images, whatever.

oh, sorry for my apology and thanx Waskel. Btw, Ovation J said they can not repeir the the adamas like such unique painting of early model. They only can fix it like a Reissue model. Btw, there is no subject of the the adamas in OFC?

Spider,

Yes there was a thread about this guitar, but I cannot find it this morning. Maybe someone else will have more luck. It was within the last month.
