I have a 1537 Elite listed on Ebay. It has 1 hairline finish crack below the bridge and a repaired headstock, but looks and plays beautiful. Deep bowl guitar made at the same place the early Adamas guitars were made. Same specs except with a wood top and no carved headstock. If you're interested, check it out on Ebay: Item 7349643337.

Don't hesitate to send to Europe. I recieved my guitar in three days to the customs and after four days I was able to pick it from there. It was unopened and well cared. I think that flights from US to Europe are very safe and things are well cared for. My guitar's flight costed 101 dollars which I think was very cheap.

I have to be honest here and say that I am having a very difficult time with the idea of getting rid of this guitar. As I look at many others for sale, they don't seem to be made as well as this one. When I spoke with the Adamas factory today they told me this guitar was made there with many of the same specifications. The binding was made with walnut, which was very difficult to do, and they don't make any that way anymore.

I just "aquired" an 87 Collectors. Do I really need my 1537 now? No. Will I ever part with my 1537? No.

So Vince, Here's an idea...DON'T SELL IT...(Ovation wishes they still made them like that...)It's one of kind, unique, has no equal, and the longer you keep it, the better it sounds and the more it's worth...

Why not keep this one till you can answer the Adamas question?

I am definitely being tempted, since Adamas is currently going through the early-model reissue period, and electronics upgrade retrofits are easily accessable. I feel like gettin' rid of her is like contemplating adultery, while still loving your wife.

Vince, You had it up for auction all this time.
Pulling your auction at the last minute just looks like you feel you did not get enough money.

No, the money wasn't the thing ... I originally put it up for auction along with two other guitars, because I really wanted an Adamas. The first two guitars sold and left me with enough for the Adamas purchase, which I made last night. After the Adamas purchase I no longer needed to sell the 1537 and realized I didn't really want to. I was unable to cancel the auction because there was less than 12 hours left. I therefore had to sit and cancel bids up to the last second. I don't know what the hell I was thinking when I considered getting rid of her. I guess I just wanted that Adams, and have wanted one since I saw them in the 80's, and was willing to give up any of my other guitars to get it. Now my family is complete.

So, how high did the bidding go for a 1537 with a crack?

Vince, IMHO... Your story just does not wash.
Your other two guitars sold on eBay on the 8th and 9th.
You scored the Adamas yesterday afternoon (Sep-13-05 15:19:22 PDT). Your 1537 auction did not end until right before noon today. That's over 20 hours. eBay sellers know about the 12 hour cut off.
You posted here advertising your eBay auction for an "old Elite 1537". During the duration of your auction, you learned that the 1537 is one of the guitars we cherish.
Your BIN was $750 and your highest bid before auction end was $610.
There were only 2 bids, which you canceled within the last half hour of the auction. We can see that your high bidder's limit was $650.
That same high bidder came back and met your reserve with a $550 bid... and you canceled that.
It just looks like you decided you wanted more money. That's your right, but why couldn't you follow eBay's rules of engagement?
I was not one of your bidders, just one of the watchers.

Guys, you can't force someone to sell something they don't want to. For whatever reason Vince decided he no longer wanted to sell the 1537. So be it. Dave

You stated that MOST Ebay sellers know about the 12 hour cut-off, but this was the 3rd item I have put up for sale.(the other 2 guitars were the first two, and in only a few days) I didn't know about the cut-off time, and after hemming and hawing all day, I just changed my mind. I decided to keep it and send it in for a makeover, while they are doing the reissues and parts are readily available. And yes ... the comments I received here helped me realize that my chances of ever having another one of these was slim.

Regardless, It was a good decision on your part to keep it Vince. It is one of the cherry guitars and if you decide down the road to sell it, hopefully you will offer it to your OFC brothers before you send it off to ebay.

Enuf,
remember that even the winner of a pissing contest is wet. We of course expect prpoer behavior in the future or else we might give a little more credence to our Noah.
SO, you now have two great guitars, tell us about them. (Often you have to get on the verge of loosing something before you finally figure out what it realllllly is worth to you[voice of experience])
