G'day up there in the USA.

I have a Breadwinner that's had the battery and pre-amp bits removed from it and I'd very much like to replace them.

Can anybody supply these to me or, if not, can anybody suggest an alternative that will make my pickups "active" again?

Cheers,
dchester (from Australia)

that is not an easy part to find. If you really need them try to buy an entire parts guitar, that would be your best bet.

You would be better off to find an old beater Breadwinner or deacon and pull the electronics. The Ovation preamp is very unique as it controls tone more than volume.

Thanks to Alpep and Mr Ovation for that quick reply.

My problem is that, down here in Australia, we don't see many Ovations of any type, let alone a vintage solid-body (I've probably got one of the country's biggest collection with 4 of them), let alone again, a "beater" Breadwinner from which I could scavange parts.

Are there any alternative, after-market preamps you could suggest, that would fit into the cavity and do a reasonable job of "activating" the pups?

Cheers,
dchester

None that I know of. If you have the older large pickups (not the mini humbuckers like a deacon) than I say leave it be. The active electronics made the lows lower and the high's higher and also had a notch filter. An EMG preamp may fit, but then it wouldn't sound like a Breadwinner anymore.

If you are looking to active, just to go active, I'd go EMG. If you are looking to restore, your're probably better off leaving it as is, unless you find a replacement.
