Maybe a dumb question. Which puts more tension on a top. A light or med gauge string?

There is an old Chinese proverb that says,
"He who asks a question is a fool for five minutes. He who does not ask a question remains a fool forever."
There are no dumb questions. The only questions that are dumb are those you never asked.

Medium strings would put more pressure on the top.

It sort of starts sensible, gets a good answer, then it's all downhill! Don't you just love this place?

So how's about a guitar with a trapeze tailpiece? (tornado)

Does changing the string gauge have any affect on the tension put on the top?

My thought is the tailpiece would spread the tension across the top to the point that string gauge wouldn't have much effect.

Anybody know for sure?

I like this one better:
"Give a man a fire and he stays warm for one night. Set a man on fire and he stays warm for the rest of his life."
