I sang backup for him all the time in my car about that same timeframe. Harry didn't care for my singing, but he was too kind to complain. ;)I sang back-up on two songs w/Harry at a benefit concert in a crowded gynasium in Mendham(NJ) in like 1978/79(?).

He never had to, the 8-track would eat the tape and I'd know it was time to shut up. I sure miss those days and I miss the song writing styles of Chapin and Croce. sigh

This song came on the cd as I pulled up in Arches National Park. Gorgeous scenery, but I stayed in the car until this song was over. He did some great stuff.

The amazing thing is that even with my lousy voice, everyone said it sounded good! I think my favorite cover of a Harry Chapin song was in the PBS tribute concert from years ago. Pat Benetar did "Shooting Star" with so much feeling it still gives me chills when I hear it. It is on youtube, but rather than tearing my hair out trying to post a link, I'll let you all wander over there and hear it for yourselves, if you're so inclined.
