During an IBT on the Tornado, I found two really stiff tuners and one with a slightly bent shaft.

Has anyone lifted and successfully reseated the two tabs without breakage?

Also, any suggestions for straightening the tuner shaft without damage?

TIA

I've never taken one apart, but I've had good luck with sticky ones by blowing them out with contact cleaner, then re-injecting them with grease from a needle tip grease gun.

CAUTION !!!

I tried just that - straightening a bend kluson shaft. SNAP. Do a search and you'll find that I sold a used set of FIVE Kluson tuners.

I think Al has NOS Kluson tuners which are idential to the ones on your guitar. I would just replace the whole set now. Imagine how nice the guitat will look with shiny new tuners.

Thanx Dave! That's what I was afraid of... I'll contact Al.

Jim, I had tried some brake cleaner. It helped a little bit, but still was tight.

Absolutely, replace the tuners...keep the old ones in the case pocket or elsewhere in case you sell it...

I like Daves Idea too, but economics sometimes dictate action. When I cleaned mine out, they were VERY sticky from no lube. I tried a light oil, and it didn't make much difference. Then I used a small grease gun I had from a Snap on air ratchet with a needle tip that they use to lube the head, put it in the hole on the outside of the tuners, and it worked great. The thicker viscosity of the grease is what these need.
