I'm really interested in beginning to write my own music. What I'd like to be able to do is go somewhere by myself (or sit in my room) and be able to record myself with good quality (doesn't have to be super high-end quality) and be able to transfer it onto my computer.

Does anyone have any suggestions on hand held devices? I was looking at this: http://www.target.com/Samsung-8GB-MP3-Mediaplayer-YPQ2JCBXAA/dp/B00...

Something that could take video as well would be really cool (which the above linked item cannot do)...hopefully someone has some thoughts on this. I'd be willing to spend a couple hundred bucks on the perfect piece of technology.

Check out the Zoom H4N. It doesn't record videos but the quality of the soundrecordings is very high and the handling is easy. All songs (except Meutis Mix) on my ningpage have been recorded with the Zoom.

Check out the Olympus units Al has. Very nice for the money. Just bought one last month for my son.

After searching Al's site, I'm not sure what you're referring to.

Best bet would be to email or even better call Al.

He is in the process of working on the website so it has not been updated properly for a long time.

Has lots of good stuff that doesn't show up.

Olympus LS-11 from Al\'s Original Posting

I bought the LS-10 for my son but if I was buying one for me personally I would get the LS-11.

I researched a bunch of them and this is the best unit for the money.
