Location: So Cal | What a great site this is. I've been an Ovation owner for 30 plus years and recently decided to take the plunge and add an Adamas. Been wanting one since the late seventies but the price was a little steep for my budget back then. In my search I stumbled onto OFC. What a wealth of information.
I have a few questions about the 1680 that hopefully someone can answer. It is my understanding this model is out of production. When were these first brought into production and how many of these were manufactured? The serial on mine is 22800 and I am wondering where it falls in the fold so to speak.
So far I am really enjoying this guitar. To my ears it is just dead on. I'm an engineer by trade and tend to be very picky about most everything. I just can't find even one thing negative about this guitar. Come to think of it, that bothers me. |

Location: Newington, CT | Hi, Jim! I have a 1681 -- close in looks, and, I've been told, close in sound to the 1680. So, I can speak only from HUGE envy. My 1681 is just wonderful. Nothing I could find wrong with it either. The 1680 has been near the top of my wish list for a long time. The top? A wide-neck 1680, if there were such a thing outside of the custom shop. |

Location: Hot Springs, S.D. | If I remember correctly, when I bought mine from Trader Jim, I believe he had gotten information from the factory that only around 70 or 75 had been made. I agree it is a wonderful sounding guitar. I HAVE found out that I prefer a standard width neck though. Oh, and sometimes 12 frets just isn't enough. Good thing I have so many other great guitars to play with too! |

Location: Denver, PA | Jim - Like Allison I've seen numbers suggesting between 75 - 100 1680's. Mine is sn 22802.
Alan - the 1680 is a 1 3/4 neck. What would you consider a "wide neck"? |

Location: So Cal | Thanks for the warm welcome. I did consider the neck width before the purchase. One of the many reasons I like the Ovation design is the thinner neck profile. That and unlike other guitars I have purchased, I have never suffered from "buyer's remorse" with the Ovations. |

Location: So Cal | The speaker in the background is an Altec Model Nineteen clone. I built a pair of them from scratch about 7 years ago. They are hefty at 175 lbs each. |

Location: South of most, North of few | Well, I sold O'Ken and Allison theirs as I recall. As per conversation with John B, they were scheduled to make around 100 of them, but lack of sales terminated production before they got there. Great guitars, close to the UTE, just a little better (with the one piece neck and no rear hatch) IMHO.
Alan M, the 1681 is quite different from the 1680 in the fact that it has a 14 fret neck and a 1 11/16 nut, while the 80 has a 12 fret neck and a 1 3/4 nut. Both great sounding, but quite different. |
