Joined: August 2006 Posts: 41 Location: ITALY | Hi everybody, I am - or I was? - the proud owner of a 1773lx (classic). I've had it for three and more years with no trouble at all... ...until yesterday: when I changed the string-set with a brand new D'Addario Pro-Arte Hard Tension set. Well believe me: the four central strings give a vibration similar to the sound given by a broken-wood guitar. In other words: it's terrible! The only way to quit it is to extract the amplifier from it's shell - or to push it while playing, which is a sort of circus-exercise... Does anybody know which trouble I'm facing? Or simply a guitar paid 1,700 euro (2,300 USD) cannot stand D'Addario Pro-Arte Hard tension strings - which could be translated as "why buying an expensive American guitar when a normal Japanese one support any kind of strings"? Thank you very much from Italy Fabio

On the inside of the can that holds the Preamp you will find two cross head screws that move the tabs that hold the Can against the side of the bowl. Try loosening and then tightening those. Also look inside and make sure that all of the wires are held by the round thingy that holds them in place. And... before you put the Preamp back in make sure that the battery is in there secure and snug. Then have a glass of Vino and relax.

I mean: I had only thought of adding some sort of tape around the preamp in order to get it tight to the can, but this is much better. Thank you very much indeed. Fabio p.s. = can you understand why such an issue with such a "technologic" guitar?

When the strings are taken off and then tension reapplied the whole instrument goes through some spasms. The can assembly is just a passenger but when too tight or too loose it can send a lot of vibration in a bad way. While you are there check the strap ends and make sure your Bridge is seated. Next time you change strings you may want to do it one at a time which I understand is common for Nylon strung and archtop guitars as they are tensioned a little differently.
