You might want to try DR RPML-11's The individual gauges are: High E-.011, B-.015, G-.022,D-.030, A-.040 and low E-.050. I have them on my Martin 000X1 and they really give the guitar a balanced sound. I'm going to put a set on my 97 Collectors as soon as it needs a string change. They also seem to last a little longer than the D"Addario custom lights which I have been using.

I have tried standard lights and mediums, and they just don't get the top moving like the others. Mtnbikerfred sent the UTE with extra lights, and told me that they were amazing. His knowledge of setup, shims, necks adjustments, etc., far outweighs mine, and knowing Fred, he put it through the full range of setups. My minimum testing, changing shims and strings, confirms everything that Fred told me. (I should have just left it well enough alone to begin with, Fred knows his stuff). It is setup with very low action, no buzzing, yet can still be strummed as hard as needed. I will not change the string gauges anymore, I know that it can't be improved, I also won't be using Elixirs on this one anymore, they sound a little dull thru the entire range. The D' A strings sound great, with the right amount of brightness and balance to my ears. I know that the same model of guitars can have a huge difference in playability and sound. Just keep experimenting and you will find the right combination. Good Luck friend!!

All B-Jim needed to do was add on thin shim and 1818's on to have a nice, low, strummin' guitar. But, that's not where the U681T really shines. These guitars are all about bringing forward the nuances. IMHO, putting anything bigger than lights on it was simply a waste. Coated strings sounded really dead compared to an uncoated string of the same composition more so on this guitar than others. Straight bronze or 80/20 sounded really, really brassy. The Savarez 1610MF's (.011-.046) have silver plated basses. They are really soft under the fingers and brought out allot of character in this guitar. I think everyone who played mine set up this way liked it.
