I normally use D'Adario lt. guage 12's, but I got these for free. Cant decide what guitar to use them on, either on a Ute for fingerstyle or an Elite shallow Bowl for more volume and bass. I dont think they will have as much brightness or zing as 80/20s.

Todd I just replaced the Clapton Choice strings on my Martin PB Custom OM w/ Elixir Nano's but only because they were extra light's and I use either lt. or med. depending on the guitar. I actually liked the tone...I just had no idea how long they had been on the guitar.

I find 13's too heavy for the smaller bowl guitars. Instead of providing more volume and bass, they generally, to my feel and to my ears, make the guitar vibrate less, and produce less volume.

Absolutely !! .. depending on how strong the TOP and Bracing.

The Very Reason that my Elite 1537 is loaded with 13-56(57) , where I intend the Chamber to be Supportive of the Strings , so as that the Sound of said Strings " stand out " , it works well with older strings .

Consider the TOP / BRACING ( Assembly ) as a Suspension :
STIF Suspension and Big gauge = STRONG Motor.
LOOSE Suspension and Skimpy gauge = LIGHT Motor.

Also String Material needs Attention.

On a Gibby SJ-200 a set of CFM MSP 3050 gauge 11-50 sounded " tiddy " , as if it could not drive the Assembly well.
A set of CFM MSP 3200 gauge 13 - 56 sounded much better , driving the Assembly well.

So far so good , after all , with the Bigger TOP and Sturdier BRACING what else could be expected.

And Yet .. also tried was a set of CFM M170 gauge 10 - 47 , on which Maria , who is a Singer/Songwriter exclaimed , that " That`s the sound she was looking for " .

So then , it is all a perception of what is Good or Better , and perhaps Women hear / perceive " Different " than Men ?? ..

Okay, it appears I am getting my first "O" very soon, possibly as early as tomorrow... it is a 6778LX I am buying from Damon... any suggestions for strings for it? For several years now I have been running medium guage D'addarios on all my acoustics (except my finger picker) but that was merely to build more strength in my left hand and fingers. I do like to play with a heavy, percussive rhythm tho and the medium guage works well for that. But I am thinking with the 6778 I will be doing more lead work with it so I will go with some lighter guage on it. What do y'all think?

David, I think D'addario 12's (Lt's) would work very nicely. Lately I've been using John Pearse 12's. Same gauge, but I find that they last a bit longer, and stay in tune better than D'Addarios. Of course, your mileage may vary, and it's just my opinion.

I THINK D'Adario lights is what Damon uses, so odds are the guitar will already come with them. And I KNOW Damon has (had) some great guitars. I love the one I bought from him a while ago! Congrats!
