Location: Tuscany, Italy		Couple of years ago I rescued my beloved 1617 on ebay. She came with a bad top crack due to unproper packing and handling. After a year the top started to sunk. To make it short, we (a friend of mine that's a luthier and I) decided to rebuilt it (sorry MS :) ).
We took the neck off and cut away the top. To my surprise we discovered that somewhere back in her life the previous owner(s) already add two unpleasant "ears" in the area were the top started to sunk around the soundhole. If you look at the hole itself you notice that its dimension was not really cut to the right size (.. take the rosette for reference). However the top grade was really a fine one and we likely found locally a very nice piece of AAA sitka spruce for the new top.
Difficult to say if the old top was tapered from 0.140" to 0.100" at the lower bout, but it seems not after some measurements. So the work is in process now and I believe I will have my 1617 back in as new condition at the soonest. I got all the necessary spare parts from MS and some will be rescued from the old top. I'll keep you up-dated. Meanwhile cross fingers LOL.

Looks like all those fan braces can be salvaged to use on the new board.

Location: Indiana		I assume the bowl is in decent shape after the surgery... You intend to reuse the rosette or do an inlay?

Location: Tuscany, Italy		The neck and the bowl are in good shape. I got a new overlaid rosette from MS along with the aluminium parts to glue on the bracing. Hope we can rescue the original bridge. The aim is to bring the guitar back to life with most of the original parts. Of course I'll post pics of any progress. Thanks eveybody.
