In a post chock full if good insite, this art stands out even more so.

Those that were active at that time were a pretty tight knit group and hardcore Ovation fans. It really is a loss to all of us that they no longer actively participate because in between the raw humor was a mountain of knowledge and more importantly, spirit that I find lacking today.

At this stage, unfortunately, I doubt it... But...

I was wondering if you all made it out of a room with TJ without trading or buying any guitars?

TJ was too busy jonesing for his ol' Martin. He was in near tears when Brad left with it...

I did offer Bob, Retired One, a nice case for his 'O' which he's picking up this weekend.

Schroeder, you have expressed your opinion, and differing opinions are fine. BUT, the WAY you expressed it could use a little refinement. Just to let you know, when I talk about what a fine community of friends I have found here, I am not "dribbling and all that shit", and I actually DO know what I am talking about. There are members here who have done SO MUCH for me, and if you don't like hearing me thank them, well, just hit your back button.

Your attack on Music Mike is uncalled for. People objected to his use of the word blessings in his sig line so he removed it. I have NO idea why anyone would object to such a thing from an ordained minister, but to accuse him of getting his education at "Bubba's burger and bible bar", and to accuse him of "posturing" is more than just an opinion, it is downright mean.

And as far as our "unabashed flag waver", I'm sorry, but I love that man like a brother. How DARE you belittle HIS service to his country!

Your opinions are your opinions, but when you start bashing my friends, well, let's just say that today was the first time in the year and a half I have been here that I can honestly say I am glad there is ONE member here that I have never met. Good bye.

...Sorry...I hit "Add Reply" prematurely!

There's more:

Another example: "Let it also be said - nowhere, to my knowledge and experience, in Europe do people find it necessary to fly flags in their gardens or feel the need to comment in any way shape or form about how much they love their country. To non-Americans visiting this site the endless flag-waving shit is offensive, unwelcoming and off-putting."

Some of this might be exactly why Europe is in such steep decline.

I lived a long time in France, and their disdain as regards all things American was just silly. I also remember walking through a cemetery in Normandie -- filled with American soldiers who gave their lives for France. Same disparaging comments. European states of mind are not superior to American ones -- just different. And, ya know what? I STILL love France and the French, despite their many profoundly stupid ideas about The USA.

Ex.: "the endless cheap use of "blessings" belittles the faith and actions of true believers, so the endless "flag-waving" belittles those who are reading the posts with genuine worries."

Wow! There's just so much wrong here! Again, who decided YOU get to determine who's sincere? Who decided YOU get to determine whose worries are genuine? Who decided YOU get to determine what words are cheaply used and what are well-used?

Ex.: "I have never felt in my entire life that I have to declare my feelings for England to anyone."

What a shame. England could use a few LOUD patriots about now. Even so, your objection is just a question of style. If you dislike America and Americans because their style includes conspicuous love of country, then you're exhibiting the same intolerance and provincialism you so loudly decry. We certainly would never sneer at the famous British reticence. (even though, just 'twixt you 'n me, I think it's kinds silly and put on.)

Trust me...there's a whole LOT about the British, or about what's British, or French, or Italian, or German, or, or, or...that could be singled out as obnoxious, or offensive, or stupid, or silly, but I wouldn't, and don't mention them, because that would be rude. And, most importantly, I don't even TRY to pretend that my culture is perfect, or even superior...just that it is American.

And, frankly, people who come here aren't rushing to LEAVE America.

Ex.: "There is at least one guy here with a HUGE family connection and interest in the military - and he doesn't carp on and on about it even during the periods when he has had children under fire. A real man who understands the meaning of service and sacrifice."

You DO describe a real man. I think. and I admire him greatly. But I wouldn't presume to say I could determine WHO is or is not a real man. You and I simply agree that his demeanor makes of him a real man. Sadly, there are those who think he's not, and who would say disparaging things about him and his character. Personally, I wouldn't give you a plugged nickel for their opinion, but they're out there, and they're allowed to say whatever they want, whenever they want to. This freedom's kind of an American thing that lots of Europeans are not used to.

Personally, I like it.

Schroeder: I hope your initial screed was just an ill-considered rant, the peevish result of an "undigested bit of beef, a blot of mustard, a crumb of cheese, a fragment of an underdone potato," to quote a great British writer. Because it certainly was unseemly. If you don't like how the OFC has changed, please feel free to upgrade our content by pouring forth copious sparkling posts, filled with fresh prose, witty bons mots and cleverness. That's a MUCH better response to the mediocrity we apparently exhibit so promiscuously.

Cheers!

I go away for guitar lessons, find out Darby's booked till next year and when I get back it's a full fledged pissing contest.
Hey remember, even the winner in a pissing contest is wet.

One more quick thing, Schroeder...I tell my kids I love them many times per day, in public. One day a casual friend of mine, a woman, took me aside and told me that something had been bothering her for a long time. She told me that I cheapened the use of the three words, by saying them so often.

I told her that if she had any idea at all of the reason why I do it, she'd understand how wrong she was.

And, you know what? I told her, and she understood how wrong she was.

And she told me a year or so later that she now makes sure to tell her kids she loves them a LOT more.

Style again. Only, there's a story...as there is with EVERY style of doing things.

Nevermind, long response redacted.

But nobody here better say anything bad about the Jackalope! Or green Jello. Wait, I don't eat green Jello, so you can go ahead and bash that.

Iffy: maybe you could re-start the topic (Operation 'O'raqi Jam ) in a different thread? It was a great topic before it careened wildly out of control.

True story: My grandmother used to make this concoction with grren jello, cream cheese, and fruit. I LOVED my grandmother. She was always proud of the compliments she got on her cooking. So the first time she served me green jello (I was just a small kid), I said "Wow, Grammy, this is good!" I know, you all see it coming. For the rest of my life Gram always made green jello whenever she knew I was eating there. And I always managed to choke it down and lie about how good it was.

Man, I have no clue where to begin, or why I feel I have to contribute to this thread ... Actually I DO know why. Why do your kids act up? Why does the dog distroy the house? Why to students disrupt class rooms. BECAUSE THEY ARE BORED.

I won't speak for any other membres of the old crew, but as for my self I am bored to tears discussing Ovation guitars. As I once said, anything of substance that I could possibly contribute to this forum has been delivered long, long ago. So why don't I just disappear like some of my best friends have done? Well, I'm ADDICTED to this place, that's why. 7 years and 13,000 posts worth of addiction. I admire (in a way) that some of my close friends had the balls to see the writing on the wall and walk away. But I can't do it. Not yet. Maybe when I pass Cliff as the most pathetic post monger of all time.

But I am also too old and too far into this thing to change. Yes, in my real life I might use the words shit, fuck and tits a few times a day. Oh heaven help us if I scar your children. To come here and be something that I am not, to tip toe around fellings and other peoples agendas? No way.

I've said this before, I will never hesitate to share my opinions or tell you what I would do in a certain instance or what I might think about something. But I'll never tell YOU what to do or what to think. Nor will I really give a shit what you think or do. It's YOUR life, go do what you want with it.

Personally I applaud Shroeder, Temp, Bobbo and others who just speak their mind and that's it. I personally know these people to be among my best friends. Add Moody, Jeff, Brad, Caravan and several others. We've slept in each others homes, eaten at each others tables, helped each other in many many ways. Friendships that will last long after the OFC is dead and gone (yes it will die someday, everything does). Ironic that my closest friends are now the outcasts. Or is it that the outcasts are my closest friends.

Just me (the bored one) typing out loud here, but am I the only one who considers this forum to be Entertainment, and nothing more? The OFC has no obligation to protect it's members from the real world, at least that's how I see it. If anything, here on the OFC you will come in contact with a higer class slice of life, less threatening, more congenial, and kinder membership than you could ever possibly run into in the real world. If you don't like the movie, then leave the theater. If I'm the one person smoking in the theater and ruining it for everyone else, then turn me in to the manager and I'll leave.

Personally I think this has been one of the best threads in a long time. It reminds me why I love this place, reminds me who my real friends are, and above all IT'S NOT BORING

I forgot to mention a couple of things.

I'm an American and fly my flag. You don't have to and I won't think less of you.

I am a Christian. You can believe what you want I won't be offended.

You can use cuss words. I've heard them all,(and used a few in my day). I would ask to be sensitive to the female and younger contingent.

Brad, I also miss some of the older members. Their knowledge, wit and guitar skills. I also wish we could have spent some time together when you lived in Tennessee. My Bad.

Temp, When someone asks a technical question and you reply I often copy and paste your reply into a file on my computer. your playing skills and technical knowledge are an asset to this forum

Al & Miles, you guys have much more patience than I do. Thanks.

Schroeder, I remember about 4 years ago I was in a twit about tuning knobs and missed an email about a dear friend who was facing some life/Death issues. YOU were the only one to send me a PM expressing your concern. When I told him that someone he never met for England was praying for him. The look of gratefulness on his face was something I'll not forget. That PM remains in my inbox as a reminder of what this forum is.

I hope musicmike doesn't stay away too long. He is a truly wonderful guy and an absolutely fantastic guitar player.

Trader Jim the first member I ever met in person. A lifelong friend.

iffy, What else can I say but another lifelong friend.

To all the girls. You add to forum stay and play.
