Gotta love this thread. Validates the concept that you need to have lots of different guitars. Lots of Ovations of all different sizes, bracings, tops, and vintages. Lots of different wood boxes with different tops, bracings, backs and sides, nut widths, and manufacturers. Viva La Difference!

Were you that disappointed with the 1681 Dweezil? I have a 1581 cutaway and the tone etc is fantastic. I was really interested in acquiring a 1681..... yours!

How does the contour bowl sound compared to a deep bowl?

Just as good. Maybe better. A little different so it depends on what you like. It feels more different than it sounds.

I did use the search feature and what I mostly found was people talking about the feel of the bowl vs the actual tone of the bowl compared to a traditional deep bowl. It seems that the contour bowl is good for people that are not skinny or sit down players but did not feel well for playing while standing. I don't recall finding more than one opinion on the actual tone differences.
I like a deep rich tone

I prefer the Deep Contour when I'm standing with a strap. I don't mind the deep bowl when I'm sitting. I'm some ways it's easier to hunch around and hang on to. .

I'd associate that sound more with my wood boxes than I would of my Ovations, regardless of bowl style. But, like anything, there are a few exceptions. But full, articulate, even and crisp are better descriptors for Ovations

The contour bowl is superior to the deep bowl in every way. Contour bowl is more comfortable sitting, more comfortable standing, it doesn't slip off your knee and to top it off, it sounds better.
