Now maybe I've been spoilt by the 1680 but the 1681 seems more like a 1537 than anything else.

Perhaps also it's the strings but the low strings seem to produce a deadish sound, sort of muffled, time to stick some Adamas strings on methinks. Has quite a woody tone, was expecting something a little 'zingyer' if that makes sense.

I must say it looks gorgeous and play great but not BLOWN away by the tone. Hmm.

Now That's the yucky blue that I love so much.

Try some lighter strings?

It is Purdy!

Lighter you say. I've stick some Adamas 12s on there, sounding better (love Elixirs on the 07C but they're just not right on this), I wonder what 11s might be like...

Mine came with Martin 12's on it, and I generally don't do Martins, but they sound OK for now.
I was just thinking that if you wanted a more 'shimmery' tone maybe lighter would work.
Don't know what you've got laying around the house, y'know?
Got any EJ26 Custom Lights? (11-52?) Little shimmer, keep the bass.

I have D'a EXP 11's on my 1681 and my 1537. The 1681 is much louder (and it should be IMO). The 1537 has the "wooden" mojo and is fantastic. The 1681 rings like fine bells and again, IMO, sounds nothing like the the 1537. Both are great, and different, and that's the way it should be.

Great pics and a beauty! Hope it all works out for ya dweez!

I was thinking the same thing on the size of your letter box.

I tried D'Addarios on my 1881 and didn't like them, so I put Adamas 1818s (12s) back on and won't change again. When I bought the guitar I put Elixir Nanowebs on it. I thought they were good, but I really like the sound of the Adamas strings. Just my two cents.

BTW, I like your new baby.

Put a shim under the saddle. It looks a little low. It could brighten the guitar up and give it some pop.

Too many people sacrifice tone for very low action....

Thanks,

I'm finding the bass strings to be quite dull sounding compared to the trebles. Need to balance it out a little. Using Adamas 12s but think that non phospher strings would be an idea. Gonna try 11s and 10s also! The bass notes seems to die quickly if that makes sense...

There is something very addictive about this guitar. I can't put it my finger it (so to speak) and finding it hard to put down (stop playing it).

Loaded SWMBOs cello into the car in it's huge hard case and noticed that's it's 1/4 of the weight of the 1681 without it's case! Is it the mojo that makes it so heavy?

Yup sure do. In fact stuck em on and yeah thats loads better. I noticed that the wood under the saddle is still quite thick, at least 2mm, so thinking of having my guitar tech take it down another 1mm to get the action right down. I can always shim it back up again eh? Anyone think this is a really bad idea?
