I've got an old (very old) Ovation PA system. It's out in the shed but I think it's got 6 channels and 2 column speakers with 4 12" speakers in each. Anyone know anything about this thing? I Googled and found a old thread with some folks asking about old Ovation electronics.

It's probably an OPAS VI (Ovation Public Address System). 100W RMS with 2 columns. I think the head is just a 6 channel pre-amp and the power amps are actually inside the columns.

Bill,

Welcome to the 'Ovation Hive Mind'. I think you'll garner some major interest in this set up. Pics would really help.

Man you guys are on top of this. The photo above looks modern compared to mine. I hiked out in the rain to check it out. IC 100. I snapped some photos. If I can figure out how to upload (and if dial up internet will let me) I'll post them.

That advert was from '68.
Photos are much easier to add on the sister site at:

Miles has a garage full of vintage Ovation amps, probably some PA gear as well. When he sees this thread, I'm sure he'll add a comment.

I'm not real computer savvy. I've got pics but they're 1.3, 1.47, and 1.6 MB. Try as I might I can't figure out how to shrink them to size. Looked at the photos and it actually is IC One Hundred spelled out.

One way to shrink them is to e-mail them to yourself.
Outlook usually asks if your want to make your pics smaller.

Hey, I Googled and went through enough pages and found Ovationtribute.com and they have photo of brochure so ya'll can go there and see what it looks like. Says it's late 60's early 70's. It says each column has 2-12 inch woofers, 2-12 inch midrange and 2-4 1/2 inch tweeters. Never noticed the tweeters. 116 watts at 4 ohms. MSRP $1,195.00. Lifetime warranty. Anyone collect this sort of thing? I've replaced it with a Peavey head and Nady speakers and my wife would love to see some of my stuff gone. They can take my tube amps( Peavey Classic 30, Sovtek MIG 50 head, Fender Super 60 head) when they pry them from my cold dead hands.

Thanks for all ya'lls' input and help. Great bunch of folks. I never could play an Ovation guitar. Big belly vs round back. Like trying to balance two balls on top of each other. A buddy has had several and I love the way they sound, just can't overcome the wobbling. Maybe a diet would help.

Unfortunately the only thing that depreciates quicker than an ovation guitar is an ovation amplifier. But someone may be interested. Try posting it in the For Sale section.

They can have it cheap but shipping may be a booger.

There are a number of Southerners in your region who don't seem to be adverse to jumping into their cars for a bit of a drive. Put it in the for sale section with a fair price and watch them come running. Me? Shipping a guitar to Australia costs enough, let alone a PA.

2ifbyC:Thanks but we're on what we affectionately call "Bubba's Phone Company" and on dial up. It would take forever. See above post of brochure if you're curious what it looks like.

Having had to carry them, I'd say one. They have two handles each so two can carry them.

Those columns seem light for a 4x12 set-up. I have a pair of Yamaha 4115H enclosures with a single 15" woofer and large midrange horn, each of which weighs 120 lbs. Needless to say, I stopped lugging these monsters around a few years ago.
