Received my 'new' KA 17 and it's a BOOMER. I love the used strings that came on it and would love to determine what they are.
The only clues I can give ya is that the B and hi E are copper, not bronze, colored. The wound strings are bronze colored which probably doesn't here ya much. All strings have copper colored ball ends.
Gotta tell ya that this 17 even beats my 14 that I love. It's almost unbelievable... It's not in near perfect condition, but at this point I don't care. The adjustable saddle is really sweet.
I need to try a bone nut on this puppy. Did I mention it BOOMS?

Location: Reno, NV | I believe that Erin Ball Acoustic Slinky's have plain steel unwrapped strings.
The only strings that I have used that fit your description are Martin SP's, which are more bronze than copper and Dean Markley GoldPhos/Goldbronze. |

BTW, thanx for your 'unappreciated' promotion of the Acads. I still can't believe the resonance and projection of this puppy! It doesn't have the 'speed bump' frets that my 14 has, nor the sharp ends. Plus it has the truss rod and adjustable saddle. The angle break on the headstock is definitely greater than most 'O's.
My 1680 and 1614 Folklore will get a well deserved break as I try to wear out this keeper.

Location: Keepin' It Weird in Portland, OR | Mine came with Silk and Steel on it. I changed it to EJ16's and they sound alright.
I will leave them on there until there wear-out, which may take awhile cuz I don't play it that often.
If you want lighter, I would try EJ26's. |

Location: Reno, NV | Just checked an old set of Markley GoldPhos and they have the copper colored plain strings. However, the wrapped strings are very orangish in color which you would also notice. |

Great observation. When held at the proper angle in the light, the wound strings are as you describe. Yet the B and hi E are brighter.
I have no idea how old the strings are, but I sure like the sound and feel. So another possibility...
