Should an Anniversary 1157 have bridge pins? Or has this been repaired?

Sorry about the size of the image, I just linked it from elsewhere.

I helped my friend Jill buy an 1157 back in Oct. and it didn't have bridge pins. I don't know if Ovation ever made a guitar w/ Bridgepins?????

I think Richard is talking about the two bridge bolts (covered by pearloid dots). I don't recall if this was normal on the anniversary or not. It's somewhat a mixed bag. For the most part on 6-string guitars the natural finish ones did not get bolted bridges, but sunburst and black guitars did get bolts because the bridge glue does not adhere as well to painted surfaces. On 12-strings I think most guitars got bolted bridges due to the high string tension on the bridge, some even 3 bolts. But as usual for every standard there seems to be just as many exceptions. Bolts or no bolts the anniversary is a nice guitar.

The pictures on Jeromes site of a 1657 clearly show a bolted bridge.

This one's at a good price for Australia $A895 ($US626). What would you expect to pay for one of these in the US? It appears to be basically an A braced deep bowl legend (e.g. 1117) with some bling on the bridge and truss nut cover.

SWMBO would kill me if I bought another guitar at the moment though. Have to wait until the tax bill arrives and is dealt with.

I would certainly pay US$626 if the guitar was in 9+ cosmetic condition. Hand-picked top, A-braced deep bowl Legend with a bit of - but not excessive - bling, it's a no-brainer. And being acoustic-only I'll bet it's even more of a tone monster.

I reckon I could knock a little off the price too. Their website says "Great Guitar, if you like that sort of thing".

Jill Paid $185.00 for hers with some small Issues. Corruagtion between the bridge and the sound hole where the bracing is and a nice chunk out of the edge of the guitar that we filled in with clear nail polish. I also had to glue the Purfulling back on to the bottom of the neck. It was half way off. BUT, the guitar sound awsome and plays like a dream!!!

Well I pulled the trigger on this one following Richard's (TAFKAR) encouragement.

I 'negotiated' it down from $AU1200 ($US856) plus shipping to $AU845 ($US602) delivered.

From what I have read, these have a BIG sound so looking forward giving it bash. :D

This one will join the 1621-1, 2007 BCS Collectors and 6756LX 12 string as well as a couple of wooden boxes. Have to sell off the Gretsch Historic Series and Cort 12 string.

If you read the "Best Centre hole Ovation" thread, you'll see that A braced, deep bowl legends are the ants pants of Ovation centre holes. I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

I just finished reading that thread and thought the same. You wouldn't lead me too far astray especially if you are offering to buy it from me in the future if I don't like it.

Chris, You wouldn't need a Amp with this guitar. One of the "LOUDEST" Straight Acoustics I've ever heard. Congrats!!!

Congratulations, that's a great guitar. And if what I've read and heard about O prices in Oz, that is a steal.

Thanks you, I know what you mean - I saw one for sale in Europe for twice the price and another in the US for $1200.

The guy at the shop said it had sat there for 6 months and they just wanted to move it on. They could have held onto it and maybe it could have sold for the $1200 tomorrow but they didn't want to wait.

I said that now they have my details to let me know if any others come in :)

On a sad note I was just playing my old 1621 and noticed the truss rod is bulging against the truss rod cover as the neck is starting to straighten. I just eased off the strings and will get some lights to put on it and possibly drop it at the lutherier's to check it over and see what can be done.
