I've changed my mind about the Tangant and saw a beautiful Black 1861 that have a really neat V type neck. Also running my hand up and down the sides they are like butter this fret board isn't going to take any skin off you hand any where.
I'm sure they're must be some 1861 owners out there, are you feeling this Ovation or is it just me.
Just to let you know I can be very 'different'. I accutally like the Ultra Series 1512 and the Celeberty CDX44.
Is this 1861 a sweet guitar like it's saying to me or will I get burned. I'd be trading my Celebrity CDX44 for it.
Thanks for you import
Anita

I have a "Loaner" M-862 midi Custom Balladeer..also Black.. the same guitar, except fretboard markers, but the midi elx take up a lot of space in the body cavity.. so the one you're considering probably sounds a lot better unplugged.

very nice super shallow bowl Ovations.. and plugged in are as always.. spectacular..

buy the Balladeer if it's in good condition, it's definitely a BIG step up from the Celeb.

The neck on the Balladeer is better than on the others you mention. That V neck will spoil you for most other guitars.

Hi, Anita;
I don't have an 1861, but I do have an 868, also Super Shallow. I really love mine, and plugged in, she's just as gutsy as her "bigger" sisters.
If you like the feel of the V neck, and she's calling your name, no reason not to. (And mine's so much lighter that I can play forever standing up...)

My first Ovation was a Korea-Made Solid-Top Balladeer 4861 , which is almost the same thing.
I really liked it. I just sold it away to "upgrade"...
Later on in life I realized that I shoulda kept that one.
With the solid-top and the SSB it sounded quite nice all by itself.
And mine sounded great plugged-in with the OP-24+ in it.
And the SSB is really comfortable.

Yes, I really liked the V neck, and there was a Korean 4861 there too but the 1861 just felt right to me, like it was made for me.
My Adamas neck feels like this.
Thank you all, I was fretting over what to trade for it. I'm also thinking of trading my O Ultra 1512 on something too.

I have just bought an LX one from the US Fleabay but havn't got it yet. Can't wait to get me little hands on it.

There are some tidy write-ups/reviews on the tinterweb about the Ballader and if you go to Utube here:

you will hear one tested quite well.

Yep. An 1861 SSB is super comfy to play, and you'll love the sound plugged in.

Yes, I own one and it's the guitar I play the most because it's easily the most comfortable guitar I own. The sound is a bit weak on the lows, but not as weak as its overseas cousins. Great playability on the neck.

I brought her home today. Gave her some TLC and of course played a bit and for a SSB cannot believe the deep bass sounds coming from her. Very happy, very.

Isn't it great to bring a prospective lover home and once home, find out that you made a great decision? Congratulations!

Yes, it is. There is nothing like an ovation guitar.
