Boy I was connected to the universe that day. He played an ovation acoustic that day. Touch of chorus, a little reverb and what a great version of that song. It was alright.

I saw him many times and took to Ovations because of him. He has an incredible catalog of songs and continues to be one of my favorite performers of all time. He tours regularly and is worth seeing if you never have ... he may have lost a step or two but he is a true icon. Just to bring this back around on topic ... for those of you who are torn between Jimi and Dave as their favorite version, there is one interesting factoid worth noting ... Dave Mason played the acoustic 12 string on Jimi's studio recording of All Along the Watchtower.

Wow, bobbo I never knew that...what a cool bit of info...I spent a couple of hours watching Mason video's on youtube yesterday...what memories...yeah he's gotten old (just like a lot of us) but he can still play! He was playing a Rainsong 12 on several more recent video's...and his solo's on Watchtower are really fine!

As it stands, however, every time Jimi's version comes up on the iPod, my monkey bone starts vibrating (and yes, that's a good thing). It's the one I first heard and the only one for a long while.

I dont know if I would feel different about it if I had not heard the other versions so many times before hearing Dylans own. Having just heard Dave Mason's version for the first time my first thought actually was about how much the drumming reminds me of the nice rolling rythm of some of the songs on "461 Ocean Boulevard".
