Don't ever say, "I used to Play" or "I have a guitar around here somewhere."
or "I don't have time"
or "I'm too busy"

Make the time. Hang your guitar up on your wall so you see it everyday. I mute the tv and play during commercials. Or I mute it and play while watching golf or football. I have a guitar in my home office AND my real office. I play while on telephone hold, or waiting for a call to come in.
Don't ever stop....find the time. Don't let life get in the way.

Iffy, that commercial pretty much breaks all of Woody's rules about who can play the blues and how and why.

I do all of the above except the office. I need to bring one down here, but I'd have to get a dampit or something similar, since it's so dry.

I keep one in the office, too, on display above a couple of nice book cabinets, then rotate the guitar after 3 to 4 months. It has now become a standing joke in the office for staff to come by and see what new guitar is in my office. Worried about humidity (we're in an old historic building that I'm sure has no humidifier), I only bring in the electrics and hybrids. Currently I have the EA68 Tamo Ash Viper.

That Tamo Ash is the only Viper that really tugs at my chain. I just love the looks.

Better advice never given. A guitar in its case doesn't get played. All my guitars are hanging on the wall, in easy reach even for just a few moments' plinking. I also set aside 1-2 hours every evening where it's just me and the guitar of the moment, no other distractions. By necessity that has to be after my son and SWMBO are asleep :D

"A guitar in its case doesn't get played." - sometimes neither do the ones on the wall. :)

"All my guitars are hanging on the wall" - Hmmmm 18" (average neck center to neck center) x 75ish guitars = 1350" or 112'running feet of wall space. Me thinks I need a bigger wall.

Miles - I'm sure you would have many volunteers to help build that wall. ;)

I work out of my home office when not traveling, so I'm surrounded by the collection. Most of them are hanging on the wall, but there's always one right next to me on a stand. I too play when I'm on hold, or when I'm on a conference call (with the mute button on, of course!).

Angled Herc hangers - we could halve that space requirement:

Serge - that picture made me laugh - I have my room humidifier near where my guitars are hanging. When it's on, whichever guitar is on the hook closest to it, starts banging continuously on the wall - so much so that I had to pad it. I was picturing that happening with your arrangement and ALL of the guitars banging into each other

Move to FL :D (then you need a de-humidifier, AKA central A/C).

When I worked at a huge corporation, the CFO had an acoustic in his office. When we had sales meetings, during breaks we would go up there and take turns playing songs. The office girls would come by to listen. Even the BOSS came by once and said, "you guys are pretty good" and left. Guitars are kinda like puppies that way....they attract girls and even big old grumpy guys like 'em.
The economy may be going to hell in a handbasket, but we still have our guitars.
Sit, play, sing a tune, and smile. At least we can do that. That puts us one step ahead.

G8r, Thats one pretty wall you got there!

Living in an Apt, I don't have room to hang them, but having only 5 (Ok 4, some don't consider the T-word anything more the Trebouchet
fodder ;) ) I do rotate and play them often.

I've only been to one customer that had guitars in his office. There were two of them, they were both Taylors and on both of them, the top split into two pieces. He said it happened suddenly (at different times). I'm guessing it was the lack of humidity... he still thumbed his nose at O's... O well.

When asked, my retort has always been "I play AT the guitar."

I used to play on the toilet when I shared an apartment in college. My roomate used to shout through the door..."you sound like shit" (haha)

I always have one at hand. Since I write, I tinker on the guitar a lot (and on the OFC!). Best of all: I carry the fingerboard around in my mind, really. So practice can be purely mental. That's why I'm mental.

The few you do have hanging are fantastic though! (However you should pull them down and play 'em more)

Dobro, don't let anybody tell you that being mental isn't all in your mind!

Great uplift after reading that sorry ass post about "Why I Stopped" Dudes, there's nothing better than jamming with the boys, and it's your turn to do a ride. If you get in a funk about your playing, try something new. I've been playing guitar for over 40 years, from rock bar bands, to folk, blues and playing in church. I just started learning to play with a thumb pick style. Wow! Dig out those Jorma and Hot Tuna records. I try to play early in the evening each day. If I play late, I get wound up and can't get to sleep. Yes, leave those Ovations out, so you can enjoy them every day.
