We've got our Ovation guitar selection narrowed down. My daughter had a CDX24 Celebrity, she loves it. Long story short, it got broke by the guitar shop... they are replacing it. I'm trying to figure out what to replace it with.

What's the difference between an Ovation Slimline pickup and a Ovation High Output? What is better or is there enough difference to warrant picking a guitar based on it? What about bracing, which is better... Modified Quintad, Modified A or Modified X?

We paid $699 for a CDX24 1.5 years ago. We are going to get either another CDX24 or something a little better. Problem is I'm finding it hard to find a Celebrity that is any better than what she had. These are the considerations for far (she cannot stand the multihole design):

Model CK047-BCBQ
Model CDX24
Model CSE24
Model CK047-FKOA

The Elite T's are all multihole... therefore we can't even look at them because she doesn't like them. She wants something different from everyone else but won't go multihole.

Does anyone have an opinion on the above models? Is the CDX24 the best celebrity there is?

Hi,
If you looking for simular money these days you can easily get a used USA made Balladeer Legend or even Custom legend.
Al at http://www.lostartvintage.com/mainframe.asp
Ovation 1861lx ccb Standard Balladeer.
Pretty guitar if its still there at low price for a USA MADE GUITAR.

I can't get used... thanks for the link though. The store is replacing it... no cash is exchanging hands.

Not even this one??

As we have all said before, an EliteT offers the most bang for the buck.
The best I can suggest is to pay the difference and upgrade a USA made Balladeer or Elite.
Has she seen the inlaid eppys on the newer Elites? They are very different looking than the glued on older ones.
She might or might not like the contour bowl.
As much as she liked the Celeb, I think she'll notice a better sound from a USA model.

I emailed Ovation... they said in order to get into a US made Ovation I would need to pay around $2399 for an 1777LX. Or get a used 1778T.

I can only get my hands on about 3 Ovations... to try and they just aren't what she's looking for so we have to order in and try it out.

Fusion,
Some of these guys have such a fixation with American made thay can't even answer your question about Celebrities.

The CDX24 is at the top of the Celeb line; today it has an Op-Pro preamp. I might be tempted to forgo the Pro in favor of the CSE 24 with an Op-30 and get the X-Bracing. If your daughter likes the black cherry burst it also comes on that model. The others are a tad downscale and have the OP-20.

If She likes the round holes she may like the looks of the Custom Legend. Lots of bling and it sounds and plays great too.

Thanks Mitzdawg... hehe I noticed the fixation... that's fine though I would like to go US model but doesn't look good at this point.

I will check out the CSE24... too bad they didn't have a pic on the Ovation site of a "Cherry Burst" CSE24. I think they'd be better off showing the actual guitar in a given color than just a square block of color.

This isn't quite a CSE24, but this is Cherry Cherry Burst...

Of course no internet image looks quite the same in Real Life.

First time post - long time reader. You all are a great bunch of folks.
My reason for finally breaking down and registering is from a comment regarding US made Ovations. "How in the world can I tell which ones are US made?" I've been eyeing a CC44S from The Guitar Factory. Is it US made and is it worth the $299 asking price?
Appreciate any and all responses.

Welcome, Wishbone. All of the "CC", "CS", and "CD" series are PacRim-made Celebrities. Have you had a chance to play it? At the risk of sounding glib (which I'm not trying to do) if it feels and sounds good to you - if it "speaks" to you - then yes, it's worth every penny. That said, it is a laminate top, and solid tops will usually sound better, especially after they've "opened up" with playing. Best of luck and keep us posted.

Mizdawg.. You're right. I am fixated. And now I'm more aware of it.

Now... Wishbone... First, Welcome.
If you shop around you can get a USA MADE Ovation.... :D ;)

Sorry... Old habits ya know.
The Celebrity might not have the best un-plugged sound but for $299, you're getting a good value. Even if it's just because of Ovation's tuner, or how Ovations tend to stay in tune, or because they are built to play and use .

See Mizdawg... Even old dogs can change!

Brad - I will share my dog bisquit with you!

Wishbone - Welcome! The CC44S is a solid spruce top. It is a Great value, looks fabulous in Autumn burst, and if it sounds good to you, that's all that counts - pull the trigger!

If you can stretch $$ a tad, try to move up to a model with the OP-20 and you might like the plugged-in sound better.

A CC44S would still have the OP4BT Pre-amp in it... Whereas the CDX44 has the OP-Pro.

But both the CC44S and the CDX44 have Solid Tops. So they will open-up eventually.

I had a regular CC44 (plywood) with the OP4BT. It ain't a bad preamp. It doesn't have the little shift button like the OP-Pro, but I never use that button anyway. You can tailor the sound with the EQ.

Like they say, if you've played it and you like the sound Go For It.
Tell them to give you a case, or at least a decent gig-bag! :p

Once again, you group of Ovation enthusiast make another new-comer feel quite welcome and at ease. - I appreciate your responses -
Unfortunately I won't be able to play the CC44S but I am heading to Richmond this afternoon to take a look at a Celebrity Elite 6778 S/N 514849 (Green). Any information or experiences on this beauty would be greatly appreciated.

I don't think there was ever a "Celebrity" Elite. The 6778 was the Standard Elite. Now it comes as either the US made LX or the Pacific Rim made AX. Both with solid spruce tops.

That's a US Ovation and the serial number puts it around 1997.
Mid-Depth, Epaulets, Quintad Bracing, OP-30, Rosewood fretboard :( (can't have everything)
But that sounds Nice... Just in time for Saint Paddy's Day! :p

OMA, I didn't think the OP-30 had been around that long? (just curious)
