FourTrack
This is an amazing and incredibly convenient iPhone app.
The quality is remarkable and it is very easy to upload recordings into DAW on your puter via wifi.

I use something like this:

This is the coolest stuff since sliced bread...makes me want to get an iPhone just to get the apps...The Guitarist video is awesome...Question: does it cost minutes as long as you are using the apps?

Mike, no it doesn't cost minutes for apps. You pay a fixed fee for unlimited internet. It is not an option to "not" pay the unlimited access.

The apps look cool, thanks Jeff!

Mike, once you buy the iPhone they've already got your soul - no additional fees are required...

That Guitarist is some incredible software for a cell phone. Really amazing stuff. Hard to believe the capabilities of modern technology. And we are coming to take it for granted. Imagine the stuff waiting for us in the future.

The problem is the more technology dependent we become, the more we will not be able to cope if there's a problem. I witnessed my niece go into a meltdown when both her computer and iphone died simultaneously. Once we got her a new computer and phone all was well.

I hate to say it, but when I was a kid we wrote letters, and never made a long distance phone call. Read newspapers for the news. Learned songs by slowing down records and talking to actual humans. And recording was done on a cassette player. It was slower, but less aggrevating if there was a problem.

Gadgets are as old as human history...
Fire...
Flint Knapping...
Animal Domestication...
The Wheel...
Agriculture/irrigation
Indoor Plumbing...
Electricity...

At any point thru time, when dependence developed on any given technology, it created coping problems if that technology became unavailable. I'm very often torn between the ever increasing technological advancement and a certain Luddite tendency. The iPhone is about the coolest tool ever... Genetically engineering your next child? Creepy.

Funny, I am 43 years old and I have never been very good at keeping in touch with anyone. Not for a lack of care or love or whatever, I just was not good at it. I didn't take the time, whatever. I recently discovered Facebook because my kids were on it and I thought that after all the crap that I have been hearing on the media about these social networking sites, I had better keep an eye on them. Turns out that I have been in contact with about 50 people so far, many of them child hood friends, many of them high school buddies and so forth. Texting is also an easy way to say hi to someone, let them know that you are thinking of them without the pressure of having a conversation. Just a funny thought or picture. I like it. I agree that our kids are completely overboard with the whole thing, but this is the generation that has grown up with a computer in their house. A telephone that fits in their pocket and allows them to surf the Internet. I grew up with Space Invaders and Pac Man. So I am very good at video games. That was my generations technological claim to fame. So, to wrap up, modern technology has enabled me to do something that I have found to be difficult to do my entire life. . . .to get in touch and maintain a conversation with old friends and family.

I am done
