Location: Boise, Idaho | It's not sudden. The values shot up to $2000 or so 3 or 4 years ago when this Josh Holmes guy used them. That was the first I heard of him or his metal group, Queens of the Stone Age. He hasn't used them for years and I don't think that group is around anymore, but the price of the GPs went way up. Before him, you could probably have picked one up in a garage sale for $50. Good guitar, but you'd have to question the values based on a shredder's popularity. |

Location: Boise, Idaho | It's true that some people will always buy based on some celebrity's uses. My thought that Josh may be or already has been a flash in the pan may reflect my bias regarding his music. Used GPs were selling for 5 times their new price, based solely on one performer. He may have already outlived his fame, but the GP seems to be maintaining the inflated value, probably based upon prior sales. A somewhat comparable Ultra GS goes for around $200. If you buy a GP because you think it's a good investment, you may be surprised.
Serge, I didn't know the difference between a GP and a GS when I made the opening bid on my GS, thinking it was going to sell for what I'd seen GPs sell for. I was the only one dumb enough to bid on the GS and still own it. Not a bad guitar, but only worth about what I paid for it. |

That would have made $2500+ a year ago, especially with an original case.
