Well, it has been a while since I've last posted, so that really makes me still VERY new here, but I need a little advice.

I have an Ovation that I somewhat need to sell, but I'm struggling with the thought of actually getting rid of it; and if I do, what's it really worth?

First of all, this is NOT a for sale ad (I know those go somewhere else), but I do need some help...

I have a 1993 5868 Elite with the OHSC. This is the one with the angel stepped walnut top. It is in very near mint condition, and in my biased and humble opinion - near breathtaking.

I'm struggling to find some real world values; I've found the original MSRP (close to $1800?!) but I have no clue what it would really be worth.

I'm hoping some people on here who really know what's up can help...

If there is any interest here, I may post pics and a for sale post, but anyway, thanks in advance for the advice!

economic times make selling a guitar for what is it really worth an uphill battle.

my guess $650-850....better times $900 easy.

I bought mine in 100% MINT condition (not a scratch, mark or any signs of playing) for $700 a couple of months ago , so I think Stephen28 is spot on with his estimate.

Thanks for the help on that price. I actually just received an email from someone who gave me a "book value" of somewhere between 900-1100.

However, the real world prices you guys mentioned are pretty close to what I was hoping for.

So, sad to say, but you may see it on the Bay within a week or so... :(

I always look on e-bay to see what guitars, et cetera, are selling for. There's your current value. The "book" value is a function of several things, not the least of which is how old the book is. Given recent financial downturns, even a relatively new book can be quite old.

A guitar, a car, or a diamond ring is worth what you can sell it for at the present time.

WCL, if you can wait to sell, you might get a better price in just a few months. That is my personal theory, based on the idea that consumers will become more optimistic. Certainly I'd wait until after tax day if at all possible.

If you are gonna list it on eBarf and you are askeered of getting low-balled, just list it with a high reserve. Or (what I've been doing) pick your price and just list it with a Buy It Now.
Either they want it or they don't!
There are still some expensive guitars listed out there. And some may say that they are asking too much in this economy, but they are not loosing their guitars for pennies-on-the-dollar.
I remember seeing of an Angel-Step Elite, and it would be worth real money to someone.

Unless your are Really desperate, it is worth alot to someone else besides yourself.

Well, I just changed out the strings in prep of listing it for sale, and now I need a different kind of advice...someone talk me out of selling this!

This is one of those guitars that rarely gets played, it just sits in the corner and looks pretty, but man oh man does it play well...

Sounds pretty sweet too!

If you never sell it you want have any regrets.
Never seen a post saying "Man am I glad I sold that really cool guitar"
