My question is just how long are you considered a "Newbie"?And when does one NOT be a "Newbie" anymore? Number of posts? ,Time spent as a member regardless of posts? How many guitars one has/had? (OK TJ, your the prez!! LOL)How many get together's you've been to? Just curious what some of you think.

I think I learned how to do the short link, but probably only tried it once and then forgot the next time. I haven't met any other of John's criteria. I always thought a "newbie" correlated with "Junior Member", which went away at something like 25 posts. And for any other Newbies out there, remember that learning to play the guitar is way more important than learning to play on the computer.

The wife was out with me New Years when a young girl offered 'boobage' for special favours. Fortunately, she thought it was as funny as I did. .......................................... Waskel, yes. As long as it's unanimous.

In that case all I have left is to tell the joke about the Democratic Priest from Illinois... I did give myself a two week time-out from the OFC once. I ended up losing my fingerprints and found 9 new chords in the Key of "E"!

Seriously though, I think that as it is with entering any new venture, going from newbie to veteran is a process, not an event. To get to veteran status, a newbie has to post. Posting is participating, and participating is essential on a board like this. Having said that, it wouldn't be a bad rule that said a newbie could not post for 30 days after joining. During that time, they are to lurk and study the features of the board, hence, posting photos,URL'S, etc. This would give the newbie time to decide if they wanted to stick around, or opt out. It is equally important to be able to offer up a lucid, and coherent post, but the veterans on this board should expect that the newbie will add a fair amount of trivial posts too (Again, guilty, and I haven't even had that many of them). Unless encumbered by extreme circumstances, travel and participating in a gathering is essential too as far as I'm concerned. To achieve true veteran status, a newbie needs to be willing to connect in person with those he/she has been sharing with. Buying a guitar from someone specific or getting suspended as a requirement, not so much. Whatever else it is, I have learned very quickly that there are very good people on this board that have a wealth of knowledge and they are freely sharing that information. That, in my opinion, is not to be taken lightly. That kind of information is invaluable and could cost dearly with teachers, tuners and technicians! There, I've just concluded a coherent and lucid post on this thread which I pray will move me a bit closer to be included as an old fart (which I am).
