What I thought was going to be a finish crack repair or possible complete top refinish ended up being a depression in the top at the soundhole, which makes it irreparable. That's bad news. But the good news is, I am going to go ahead with a new AAA top with a new paint job, and I'm replacing the nut and saddle with black to enhance that rich colored look. The neck, bowl, headstock and hardware are all still great, so I'll basically end up with a new, resurrected vintage guitar. Now the wait begins. Stay Tuned (:

If they are replacing the top, you'll get a new bowl as well. With that being said, you might also look into upgrading the electronics. I did that with my 87C. I've got the only one with an OP Pro instead of the OP 24, and I love it!

That repair was completed just before the Fender takeover though. As a side note, the factory doesn't save and reuse bowls. If they are replacing the top, you'll get a new bowl as well. I'd also go for a pre-amp upgrade. I had it done on my 1619 and am very happy with it.

I'd probably go that color, except it would mean redoing the neck and headstock, which would take away its vintage look.

The neck and headstock are still the original color but the guitar as a whole looks great. Unless I pointed it out nobody would notice. The factory did an exemplary job of filling in the old pre-amp hole as well as moving the strap button to the upper bout. The original bowl was brown and was repainted black. I'd tell you to go for the New England Burst but as far as I know mine is the only 1619 in that color. I'd like to keep it that way. :p Just kidding! Mine was missing the label and the factory added a new label listing it as a 1719. Be prepared to wait. It took the factory almost 4 months to do mine, but it was well worth it. One last thing. Ask the factory if yours has a fiberglass bowl. Mine does. If yours does, ask if there's a way to keep the bowl if they're inclined to not to. I think the old fiberglass deep bowl CL's have extra mojo.

From what I could see in the photos it looks like a fiberglass bowl. I'd think that the factory will try to save it because of the vintage nature of those bowls. They were hand laid. Also, the old truss rod neck won't match up with the bowl design with siginificant modification. That guitar would look real fine in NEB without doing anything to the neck and headstock.
