Location: Keepin' It Weird in Portland, OR | My K-1111 has Kluson tuners.... Which are nowhere near as easy to use as regular-old tuners.
I just did manage to change the strings, but I'm sure that there is a easier way to do it than I just did. Since I put EJ16's on it the Balladeer, and I have immediately decided that it really needs Medium EJ17's on it, I will be changing them again soon.
So, is there a link to good directions that I could not find? (I did look)
Or y'all could just give me good directions.
Also any other relevant comments and observations and stuff...
But I really want to learn how to do it Right before I change them again.
[Since I am basically cheap, I will play it with the EJ16's for a little while first. :p ] |

Location: Scotland | Are they split-post Klusons? If so the only dfference is that you cut off the string to the correct length (maybe an inch or a little more beyond the post) and poke the string end into the hole at the base of the split. Then bend the string around the post and bring it up to pitch. Easy. Probably easier than regular tuners. |

First I had trouble deciding how much to cut-off in advance...
Then more trouble with the High 'e' slipping.
I am used to threading the sting through, then I can see how much slack I want before I have to commit myself. I know that I saw a thread sometime discussing this, but I couldn't find it.
And google just led me to people trying to sell me tuners, or figure-out how old they were.
I'll get it eventually. |

Location: Phoenix AZ | I find with the split post Klusons on the high E and B strings it helps to poke the sytring in thge hole as Paul suggests but then give it 1/2 wrap in the opposite direction, then back through the split and wrap as normal.
The split post Sprezel tuners on the 2080and OFC II guitar work the same way with one added twist (no pun intented). On the sprezels the hole in the shaft goes completely throug the tuner so basically you string it up and then cutt off the excess flush at the BACK on the tuners at the gears. |

Location: 6 String Ranch | what they said. We used to go one post further than the one you were wrapping around. On the B and E I get the lenght and then bend it 90 degrees then cut it off. |

Location: Blue Ridge Mountains | Cut it to length as Beal and others have said, put about 1/2 inch through the hole/split and then bend the string end counterclockwise toward the top of the headstock and wind about three wraps (which if you did as Beal suggested of going one post past the one you are loading will automatically give you three wraps) and you're done...tune accordingly...
This gives the string a Z shaped lock around the post and will not slip. |
