That's supposedly so the passengers can watch the skiers, but it's really so the driver can watch the babe in the bikini who sits in the passenger seat. Are the steering wheels on the left just for Aussies? I can't remember if the last racing boat I saw up here had the steering on the right or the left. | ||

Joined: June 2006 Posts: 7307 Location: South of most, North of few | Most boats have the wheel on the right because most props are right hand rotation, and tend to torque the hull to the port (left) side. Putting the weight of the driver on the starboard side (right) counteracts the forces. | ||

Joined: June 2006 Posts: 7307 Location: South of most, North of few | Most inboard boats (non V drive) with a standard rotation automotive engine (left hand rotation looking at the flywheel) will have consequently a left handed wheel (prop) as opposed to a sterndrive which reverses the rotation in the gear set to make it a right hand wheel (again prop). 90% of the outboards have right hand rotation props except for the ones that are called "counter rotation" for twin installations....and, then there's the infamous "duo prop" designs by Volvo and Mercruser that use two counter rotating props on the same shaftline to counteract the torque altogether. | ||
