AJ, that's amazing. When are we going skiing? (Just don't use full throttle on me). Dave, bizarrely enough, boats drive on the right in Australia.

You know what they say about boats. Good to see you on your second happiest day, AJ. That reminds me that I need a new battery for mine. It just doesn't seem right that a little thing like a boat starting should bring some small amount of joy, but that's the way it is.

Please tell me that that is for organized racing. That's not the proper configuration for trolling: unless it's for !!!

It's a ski boat. Should pull about 16 skiers. See how the passenger seat faces backward? That's supposedly so the passengers can watch the skiers, but it's really so the driver can watch the babe in the bikini who sits in the passenger seat.
Are the steering wheels on the left just for Aussies? I can't remember if the last racing boat I saw up here had the steering on the right or the left.

Boats in this neck-o-da-woods have the wheel on the right.

[at least in Oregon, Tennessee, and New Wingland]

Most boats have the wheel on the right because most props are right hand rotation, and tend to torque the hull to the port (left) side. Putting the weight of the driver on the starboard side (right) counteracts the forces.

Almost ALL the boats in this area have the helm on the port (left) side of centerline, including mine! That's not counting those with the helm up on a tower/mini-tower. Those are usually centered.

So in Australia do the props turn the other way, like the toilets do?

Most inboard boats (non V drive) with a standard rotation automotive engine (left hand rotation looking at the flywheel) will have consequently a left handed wheel (prop) as opposed to a sterndrive which reverses the rotation in the gear set to make it a right hand wheel (again prop). 90% of the outboards have right hand rotation props except for the ones that are called "counter rotation" for twin installations....and, then there's the infamous "duo prop" designs by Volvo and Mercruser that use two counter rotating props on the same shaftline to counteract the torque altogether.
