Location: Wichita, KS | Patch, are you a displaced Pittsburgher? Oh, and I believe the Steelers will make chipped ham out of the Cardinals. For those who've never heard of it, chipped ham is Pittsburgh's official lunch meat. |

Location: Colorado | During our quarterly company-wide breakfast meeting on Friday our safety officer (from Western Pennsylvania) spoke for about ten minutes. He opened up with, "Go Stillers!!" I've heard Eagles pronounced "Eggles", too.
BTW, I think the Cardinals offense will have a tougher time against the Steeler defense than they did against Philly. I'd much rather see Arizona get a chance than Philadelphia barf another one up. |

(Look up the pronunciation in my previous post.) He started when that skyscraper was barely a huge hole in the ground. I wore a "Pittsburgh, Champ City USA" shirt into the 80's. (It was so well-worn that I think it eventually evaporated in the dryer one day.)

I grew up just south of the 'Burgh in Monessen, cheering for the Super Steelers of the 1970s. Although my kids were born and raised in Kansas, they are every bit the Steeler fan that I am.
My dad worked for Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel most of his life. |

Our Detroit Lions were the FIRST football team ever to lose everyone one of their games in a season.
Were actually pretty proud of that around here.The owner needs to concentrate on selling cars instead of his football team.

Both of my parents are buried there.
My uncle worked at Wheeling-Pittsburgh as well.
My dad was a HUGE Steelers fan. |

Not long ago, I got to visit using a conference as an excuse. We stayed across the street from the USS building. (Wouldn't that be a great name for a ship?) Every morning I would take my daughter to the Starbucks now in the lobby there and call my Dad in Virginia to talk to him from his old stompin' grounds. Good memories.  |

My dad was born in Charleroi. My mom and several other relatives worked in the Corning Glass plant there.

My Pittsburgh accent has faded, but I still use phrases that I grew up with. Now and then I'll notice someone looking at me funny and then realize I've slipped into Pittsburghese.

Regarding Pittsburghese, I still use "yinz" all the time, and "JAGOFF!" is just too perfect for so many of life's little curve balls. ;) :cool: |

My oldest son and I went to see the Pens play the NY Rangers a year ago. Jaromir Jagr was with the Rangers at the time and I noticed another fan wearing an old Penguin Jagr jersey. Only he had changed the name on the back to "Jagoff". Too funny! |

You guys just triggered a synapse in my brain that literally hasn't fired since probably like the second grade.
I don't have any vivid memories of the actual park (vague, at best), but I remember (now) that it was always something that I looked forward to when I used to visit my family out there.
If you guys hadn't mentioned it, I probably NEVER would've remembered it again!
I gotta' call my brother now & see if he remembers it.

Location: Blue Ridge Mountains | For nearly 5 years I had the priviledge to be an assistant Varsity Football coach at Honaker High School in SW VA: Heath Millers High School (Steelers Tight End #83)...He was our Quarterback, team leader, and a fine young man...He hasn't let success change him and I couldn't be more proud of him...he became a tight end at UVA and won the Mackey Award in his Senior year...he took his first check from Reebok prior to signing w/the Steelers after getting drafted in '05 and outfitted all of the varsity teams at H.H.S. with new equipment for that rural High School...that was one of the coolest moments I have ever experienced...watching the coaches as each new box of gear was opened that 1st day of practice '05...hardly a dry eye...That's Heath Miller...first class!
