Right yinz? ;) Here are some appropriate references for those unfamiliar with the Three Rivers Dialect. There are many more online, some less respectful than others. Pittsburghese Pittsburgh Dictionary Pittsburgh Speech Trust me on this one, you'll be hearing it a lot in two weeks!

He opened up with, "Go Stillers!!" I've heard Eagles pronounced "Eggles", too. BTW, I think the Cardinals offense will have a tougher time against the Steeler defense than they did against Philly. I'd much rather see Arizona get a chance than Philadelphia barf another one up.

That's the tallest building in Picksburgh. (Look up the pronunciation in my previous post.) He started when that skyscraper was barely a huge hole in the ground. I wore a "Pittsburgh, Champ City USA" shirt into the 80's. (It was so well-worn that I think it eventually evaporated in the dryer one day.) Patch, are you a displaced Pittsburgher? In honor of the Super Bowl, I've changed my profile.

Although my kids were born and raised in Kansas, they are every bit the Steeler fan that I am. My dad worked for Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel most of his life.

Our Detroit Lions were the FIRST football team ever to lose everyone one of their games in a season. Were actually pretty proud of that around here. The owner needs to concentrate on selling cars instead of his football team. But wait till you see us next year  GWB

But fun in a malicious sort of way. :D ) Not long ago, I got to visit using a conference as an excuse. We stayed across the street from the USS building. (Wouldn't that be a great name for a ship?) Every morning I would take my daughter to the Starbucks now in the lobby there and call my Dad in Virginia to talk to him from his old stompin' grounds. Good memories.

Now and then I'll notice someone looking at me funny and then realize I've slipped into Pittsburghese. How many of yinz would know what I meant if I said, "Kennywood's open"?

Jaromir Jagr was with the Rangers at the time and I noticed another fan wearing an old Penguin Jagr jersey. Only he had changed the name on the back to "Jagoff". Too funny!

I don't have any vivid memories of the actual park (vague, at best), but I remember (now) that it was always something that I looked forward to when I used to visit my family out there. If you guys hadn't mentioned it, I probably NEVER would've remembered it again! I gotta' call my brother now & see if he remembers it. Thanks,Guys!!! btw; My other uncle worked at the CorningGlass plant as well . . . till they packed-up & moved-out (to Holland, wasn't it??)

And it's just a fun video anyway. The girl who played Kenny Kangaroo knows what "Kennywood's open" means...

Go Heath! Go Steelers! | ||
