No interest in Pauls, Strats or even Explorers or Flying Vees unless they're extra spikey and dangerous looking. When he bought a cool looking $100 no-name electric off eBay, he realized that looks aren't everything.

He bought the Ovation because of me - but he bought that one because of the looks. Of course after attending several gatherings, he wants to jump right up to an Adamas. He needs to save a LITTLE more birthday money!

I just don't see many 'rocker' wannabe kids wanting acoustic guitars, no matter how cooly the corporate suits think they're painted. (I would love to see the sales figures on the 'Heroin Diaries' Ovation. I can't believe they sold more than about 5 of those.) All the kids I know via my two daughters' school want solid-body electric guitars a la Guitar Hero, not acoustics. I do think that Daisy Rock guitars are a brilliant idea to target young girls. I periodically go to GC to fondle . . . uh, play . . . various guitars and Daisy Rock are actually pretty nice guitars. IMHO, the 'flamed' versions of the 1778Ts are pretty freakin' cool. They don't need skulls and spines and other weird graphics. At least, that's what I'd tell 'em if they asked. Not sure if this is even related to the subject, but back in the days of old, I used to put radios in new cars, in particular Pontiacs. Those were the years when the Smokey and the Bandit movies were coming out and I'm not kidding, 4 of every 5 car carriers that pulled into that Florida dealership were carrying ONLY black Trans-Ams. Everybody wanted to be Burt. And get this, all the TAs, no matter what the color, came with the big bird on the hood. But it was a $300 option. So if you occasionally got some weirdo who didn't want the bird, they'd just go out and peel it off like a big banana — and throw it away. LOL

I can't figure it out myself yet, but I think it's something I need to get into. So? Did they have a Guitar Hero booth at NAMM? Also Fender and Gibson both had HUGE displays of computers running their amp simulation software. I mean, Gibson must have been 40 laptops in the room, half Dells and half Mac Powerbooks. You want to demo any of the 100 guitars hanging up you don't plug into an amp, nope you plug into the computer. Let's face it, this is the wave of the future.

The fact that my first guitar (purchased in 1982) was an Ovation, and the fact that I loved it, meant that Ovation had the inside running when I came back looking for more 20 years later. I hope these guitars play well, because (after the cool looks have faded) that will create the brand loyalty in the next generation. Also, while the staple of a youth rock band is (and always has been) electric guitars, even in our day, the rock groups would reach for an acoustic from time to time. e.g. "Behind Blue Eyes" by the Who. These lines will give them that acoustic sound, while visually being strikingly different to the run of the mill wooden box with a sound hole in the middle. I think they should offer an upgrade path for aspiring young rockers, perhaps a "Death Adamas" in all black with skull shaped tuners and some sort of grisly motif.

Originally posted by Oddball: I might buy that one. Maybe we could get Ozzie to bite off the heads of a few doves and drip "official" blood on the swastika model, which of course would have a nut made from Hitler's exhumed bones. It was there when I was a teen listening to Venom, Slayer, Exodus, etc... And I feel this generation of young people has a genuine need for more images of darkness, death, anger, morbidity and so-on. It's nothing new guys, we're all just getting older. If Ovation can make a few more bucks by slapping silly stickers on for the kiddies, more power to 'em. BTW Bobbo, I bought my first O at Starland music there in Alameda with my own $ earned from mowing lawns, paper routes, and unloading the trucks when the music store got shipments, but I think you're pretty spot on these days. The entrepreneurial spirit has seemed to die amongst the kids of today (including my own)
