Glenn just called to tell me his wife, Char, came out of successful cardiac surgery at Shands Hospital at UF (where I work as a biomedical researcher). The surgeon says she's already experiencing vastly improved blood flow & her health should get steadily better.

Needless to say, a great weight has been lifted off Glenn's shoulders. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

Thanx Serge for the update and good news!

I'm so pleased to hear that the surgery went well. Here's hoping that her road to recovery is a smooth one. It's still unreal what Char and Glenn have been through!

Still in my prayers...

Thanks guys... she is doing well, and should be moved out of CICU by Friday... prayers and good thoughts very much appreciated.

Tired, just left at shift change and talking w/incoming staff.. now sitting over at the Motel... 2 blocks from the hospital... when she gets to ccu.. I'll be able to stay in room w/her

got some of her family from Tally and Madison coming over over the weekend... all good Old Florida/From Florida People..

her mother was a level 6 at the capitol, and personal secretary to 2 governors... then went to parks division...

Her Grandfather opened up the Furniture stores and Department stores in Madison..

The Dr. has said that her cardiac output is already 35% Better... and that was her Cardiac Specialist.... Dr. Hess.

Glenn

Hey Glenn, my thoughts drifted to you and Char as my plane took off out of FLA this afternoon. We've shared in your long road to get to this point and it is so joyful to hear that it has turned out so well. Keep the faith.

Hi all, Char has been extubated, they have removed the Swan catheter from her neck and is taking in fluids, they have reduced her sedation, and even got to get out of bed and sit in a chair for about an hour today.... not bad less than 24 hours after a quadruple bypass....
her throat is extremely sore from the heart/lung and the other tubes that were down her throat and in her neck... but she's up and speaking.. and no apparent additional neurological damage caused to aggravate her continued symptoms from the major stroke she suffered in June, which are now minor. also amazingly and surprising the Dr.s and staff is her kidneys have not gone into failure as they were sure they would...

coronary output is now about 38% better than when admitted.

Thanks for the prayers all, and AL/Slydog...
Thanks Brother! don't let the news crews and trucks bother you too much over the next couple of days...

Glenn

they are going to let her have a little jello and/or broth in a little while.

Charlotte was released from CICU yesterday, they have removed the swan catheter from her neck, and is off of the ventilator.

she is now in room 5450-B and is able to have visitors.. with luck she will be released in another 6-10 days...

Thanks for the prayers and well-wishes for my wife.

Heart surgery, transplants, and bypass have come so far since my father died waiting for a transplant in 96... as he was 6'4" tall and 250# and they have to pretty much match body size to get a heart big enough for the job.. and it was the middle of winter in New Haven/Stamford where we were living, and we were waiting for donor season, which is spring when all the big tough bikers go out cruisin without brain buckets on... and that is exactly what the surgeon's at Yale called it.. donor season..

They took out Char's infusion lines from her neck today.. removed the chest tube, have given her a couple of breathing treatments, sent her down to x-ray, which is now being evaluated by one of the fellows here... and if everything looks good.... she gets to come home tomorrow..Wednesday at the latest if all continues to look good... 6 days from a quadruple bypass... amazing! Dr. Hess told me that full transplant patients often go home now in less than 10-12 days...

Thanks for the prayers all! Char says to tell you all thank you as well!

Serge just came over to the Hospital and dropped off the guitars, since no-one at G8rBowl-II wanted the Fostex mixer/recorder I suggested he donate it to a Church or local garage band.

Thanks for the welcome at the get-together.. hope to see and meet all and more of you again soon.

Glenn
