But I haven't really been able to find any information about this guitar. Throughout the years, I have met one other person who has had the same guitar, but with a different headstock on it. I know it isn't anything great, as far as quality guitars are concerned, but I would like to know how these guitars stack up to the rest of the Ovation family. What years were they manufactured, do any of you own one, what's their reputation, are they worth anything these days? etc...... Thanks for any input. BTW....please excuse the dust.

However someone who knows what they're about should be 'round shortly. PS: Turn it up and PLAY THE DUST OFF IT!

However, my 9 year old son has really shown a strong interest in playing guitar the past 6 months or so. I'm hoping he sticks with it, at least that way all my gear can still be used.

It was given to me by a friend who had bought it in a pawn shop. He'd had it sitting in a cupboard for a couple of years so it needed a bit of work. Unfortunately, before I could get anything done to it, his son decided he wanted it so I had to return it. It seemed to play OK but I just didn't get to spend enough time with it to form a decent opinion. Hope you enjoy yours. BTW...your days of "turning it up" are never behind you. I had the cops called to a gig only a couple of weeks ago because we turned it up. I'm still feeling proud about that :D

I also have a LesPaul Studio that I use, but I still prefer to play the Ovation over the LP anyday. The playability is just much better. I've been toying around with the idea of pulling out the remaining xk-110 and adding a couple of EMG-SA's to go along with the 81 that I have in it now. The weight of the guitar, seems a little heavier than most, makes for some great shred tones (IMO) and it has a great feel.

When they didn't sell as well as I guess they hoped, rather than dumbing them down, they just stop making them. The only issues I have seen consistently with those early 80's imports including the Ultra GS's are inconsistent quality of the necks. It's purely a guess, but I think with mass-production techniques, the necks weren't cured or allowed to rest, or whatever technique is employed, before finishing. The result seems to be that most of the time they neck lasts just fine, but every once in awhile one just warps, and warps badly. I also noticed that the type of glue they used overseas on the nuts, really soaked into the wood and replacing a nut 30 years later is a bit of a challenge. But other than those two occasional issues, I can't find anything wrong with these guitars. They are easy to play. They weigh a little more than similar models which I agree adds to sustain, and they are balanced, which compensates for the extra weight.
