They are Brass.

(I was trying so hard to get a good pic of the red wrap that I neglected to mention that part)

I think those are old Martin strings. Are you just trying to get an ID or are you trying to get exact replacements?

Curiosity... Plus I kinda wanted to know where I was starting from when it is time for a change.

I asked the previous owner and he said that he thought that they were D'Addario 11's...
But I believe him to be incorrect because the ball ends are brass.

He had just got it back from a "Professional Luthier" because the "bridge was pulling up"...
I am guessing that is who put the strings on.

Anyway... I like the way it sounds so I wanted to know where I was starting from.

Those Thomastik strings look interesting. Thanks, Marenostrum. I would bet though that at 19 bucks a set, the luthier OMA mentioned probably didn't use them. I still think they are Martin Marquis. Could be because they have the red silk, or it could be because *I* think they are the best sounding strings for an O.

I wish I could get them for my baritone. Martin doesn't make a string that heavy. : (

We can get a Thomastick string set here for 12,5 euro on the web. They are made in Austria (I guess...). Very well made. Balanced tone and durable. They have a "orange wrap" at the ball end to protect the bridge AND at the other end too to protect the machine head and give more grip when tuning. It worth a try. I always use .10/.50.

I use 13-56 on my baritone. I would be afraid if I went heavier than that the walls might fall down.
Martin doesn't make that gauge or do you use an even heavier one?

I need to tune all the way down to B in order to sing some of my songs. Also, B is so easy to transpose on the fly. The 13's were WAY too floppy in B. I got some La Bella's in 14's and 15's. I tried the 14's first. I was surprised when I tried to put them on and the hole in the bridge for the bass string was too small to get the string to go through. The nut isn't set up for 14's either. Nothing I can't fix myself, but it surprised me. John Pearse has acoustic baritone strings and their "light" is 15. Their "medium" is 17.

I'm going to use these 14's for a while and try the 15's later. I have a feeling the 15's will be just right.

I tried a set of the John Pearse Baritones....15-62 and absolutely HATED THEM (according to my notes on string changes).....HATED THEM with all caps in my notes. Note sure why I HATED THEM but I was quite adamant about it.
