Location: isle of wight england | I have an elite 1778tx which i regularly gig with. It has the op30 pre amp. Anybody got a view as to whether I can replace this with an Op pro pre amp. 1) Will it fit ok? 2) Is it straight forward to replace? 3) Is the quality difference worth the change? Thanks for any help. |

To answer the questions...
1) No... You cannot just drop an OP-Pro into that can. The contacts in the can are different.
You must change to an OP-Pro can with the OP-Pro Preamp.
2) But, Yes. The OP-Pro can will fit in the hole just fine.
Loosen a coupla toggle-screws, unplug some wires, reverse the process, pretty simple.
3) I think that the OP-30 is a more powerful (read "Louder") preamp than the OP-Pro.
Plus the OP-30 mutes when you use the tuner.
The OP-Pro has the Al DiMeola and Melissa Etheridge presets, but the OP-30 has the Pre-Shape and Mid-Shift, and the EQ-bypas... So you can do the same things with it.
So I guess that the answer is subjective. The tuner on the OP-Pro is easier to read for Old Farts.

As for your question, in my opinion, it's not worth the $ to upgrade that preamp, it's a good one as it is. |
