i don't know about your familiararity around a guitar neck but i always have to take the occasional look to see that i am going to hit the next chord or note by looking at the fret mark on the neck . i have been looking at a bit on you tube and am impressed with people who can play so well with guitars without fret markers.
i do think that if i would of learned on a guitar like that that i would probably be a much better guitar player then i am.
do any of you play fretless bass guitars or unmarked fret guitars ? GWB

A number of my guitars do not have fretboard markers. But I can't see the fretboard anyway. Depends how you hold the guitar. I tend to hold mine pretty "upright" ie face of guitar perpendicular to the floor. Unless I lean forward or tilt the guitar back I can't see the fretboard. I use the side dots as my guide.

My hero was Doc Watson so I learned to play with my eyes closed. I still stumble a lot when I walk.....

My classical guitar doesn't have any markers. It can be tricky but you just get on with it.

I have one Adamas without markers and one nylon strung classical guitar. No playing problems (due to that). My electric have fretboard inlays - some quite prominent, actually - but they are there for eveyone else to see because in a normal playing position I dont/cant see them. I do use the side markers and find them nice to have on eletrics. On most acoustics the neck joint is at 12th or 14th position so it is fairly easy to judge where you are.

I don't have to look at the fretboard to know my fingers are on the wrong frets - which is often...

I use a capo 95% of the time on the 1st thru the 6th frets, so markers don't mean much to me anyway. Capo on the 2nd fret looks similar, but capo'd on the 3rd and the fret markers are useless.

I'll let you be the first customer for a new invention I came up with... moveable position markers. They are self adhesive white vinyl dots you can place on the neck after you've capo'd and screwed up your reference with existing dots. Set of 20 includes 20 black ones to block out existing dots you no longer want to be confused by. First 50 callers get TWO sets for just $19.95 plus $25.00 shipping and handling. Hurry... they won't last!

LOL - they oughta sell like hot cakes Dave... except for being a pain in the butt to reposition 'em each time you move the capo.
