I'm a newbie to the site. Can't believe I just now found it. Been an Ovation fan since the early '80s. Jim Croce hooked me on them. Had a couple of Legends & others. Bought a new Black Elite in 1983 & have owned it ever since. It's one special guitar. Thanks for all the time & effort that has obviously gone into the site.

Welcome. If you purchased your Elite in 1983, isn't it a 1537? Wood body binding, walnut fingerboard,2 knobber electronics? A very wonderful guitar.....

Hi Sleep Bones,
Thanks for the welcome. Yes, it is a 1537-5 (Black). It has the stereo pickups & gold tuners. I bought it new & have played it very little (due to lack of time, mostly). It has a sound like no other guitar I've ever owned.

Welcome, Stumpy. Do some digging in the archives and you'll find plenty of discussion of the 1537. There are many fans here. Black ones are especially rare.
My 1537 doesn't get used as much as it should, mainly because I have newer toys to play with, but it definitely is one of the best sounding guitars I've heard.

Welcome Stumpy. All you need do is mention Croce, and Mark's ears perk up.

I've a 1537 too. One of my favs. It's a burst though.

I've updated your status, so feel free to post around the board.

Manybe post some pics of that girl in the General Posting area.

Hey guys,
Thanks for the welcomes and the comments. Got busy at work last night & didn't get to respond back to Sleepy.
I'll take some pics in the next few days & try to post in the general area.
When I bought the 1537 back in the day the music store had two of them, one black and one natural. I wish I had bought both of them, but just buying one sent my wife into orbit (you know how that goes)!
Anyway, although I've bought & sold many guitars over the years, this one will be with me 'til I'm gone to a better place & my grandson gets it. He's 11 years old & loves guitars too.

Thanks guys,
Later
